Rusty Ford

Post

Another rusty ford.. bought my self swb transit back in January as a work horse dump run beast. It was welded by the garage I bought it from and being a 56 plate transit with 97k miles it was showing it's age.

Wasn't long before I was under it. With in a four weeks of getting it  the gremlins showed up, it start showing all the lights on the dash one night and the speedo was all over the shop… the very next day I went to look into the dash issue and the wheel bearing collapsed… so I ending up ordering front disks and pads and a wheel bearing. With van still driving after I fixed the bearing me and the girlfriend would take it into the next town for a run… soon as I stopped in the car park after a very dodgy drive up to town…it wouldn't start again… long story short a mate worked at a local garage and we recovered it. It lay with them while I was away working and my mate took it home for me… only sayin "your vans running" I will drop it off…

So I asked what's the cost… "oh nothing" me thinking oh must of been a easy fix… end it story… so I get home for work, thinking to my self I go and start the van up and see if the issue it cured… can not starting, calls my mate up who tells me "oh I never got it fixed but I went to move it away from the garage as it was in the way and it started…" so i had though he'd fixed it … no wonder he didn't want paying!!!

After a few hours and a made up earth lead. I found the earths for the ecu and a whole heap of other electricals were on a totally rusted part of the inner arch… and the only reason it was working was when it was wet.

Sorted that out and she was running a dream.. the next month the power steering pipe burst. So some new pipes were ordered and I fitted them… not after the the pipe sheered the end off In the rack and I had to spend absolutely ages drilling it out.

Brings me to my latest issue after 10 months of owner ship .. there was a Very small rusty hole appeared in the side loading door sill.. so I thought best tackle it while the where is still good..after cutting a heap of bad metal out and making bits for it I was happy and thought, I will clean up the whole sill and make a tidy job, get some stone chip paint on it.. well I found the side step was not intact…. got the parts ordered for this so will be the job when I get back… more reasons why the Mk1 build it slow and stop.
