Plain English Wheel Size Advise Please?!

Hi All,

I wonder if I could ask anyone who can if they could offer me some advise of wheel sizes please? I've searched here and there but it seems to get more complicated every second!

Essentially my question is this: I look at the back of my '83 GTI and the wheels just seem too skinny to optimise it's look and stance. Can anyone advise what the widest wheel I could fit without any body mods is please? I'm thinking 15" as that looks to me like the biggest rim that doesn't look too 'aftermarket' and it's not rim diameter that I'm after. At this point the plan is to get a set forged in a version of the design of the P-Slot version that has the 8 P's (15x6 I think?) but hopefully with more width if that's possible. I'm currently running with spacers (15 front, 20 rear) which brings the wheels out to about where I'd like them but if anything makes the existing wheels (14" P-Slots) look even thinner!

Any advise on a spec that would work would be much appreciated, but please do offer this on the basis that you're talking to someone that knows what the rubbery black bit and the shiny silver bit are but very little else! And appologies if this has been covered before, but it's advise at the level of an absolute novice that I need and all that I've found so far is so riddled with abreviations and acronyms that it confuses more than it helps!

Thats got to be the 5th time youve posted that , once perfectly acceptable, now its no place for for it and only kidding , i dont really care..

How wide have some of you guys gone on the rear with coilovers? I got some.9" Schmidt thinking there a bit too wide though from my MK2 [emoji12]
