Anyone got an underseat sub??

As titled really guys

I've fitted a pair of jbl 6x4's up front and although loud they distort at the top end.

I dont want the sort of bass that makes you infertile, just to take the stress off the speakers and improve the sound quality at higher volumes.

I've got a period blaupunkt which I intend on keeping and will not be cutting up doorcards or parcels shelves so an underseat number might just be enough

P.s I know this should really be in the ice section but I dont think many read it

Ive got an InPhase USW10. Sounds pretty decent and easy to fit.

do you get a good sound in your cabby? im putting off spending on I c e cos im fearful the birds will enjoy my tunes and I dont

Plenty out there and if you're just looking to cut the bass out of the fronts any should work fine.

You'll have to have a measure of the space and buy from that I should think.

JBL subs are good as are JL.    You'll need an active one as that includes the amp. Do you have pre amp out puts on the stereo? if not you'll need one that will take a 'high input' from a speaker cable.

As long as you don't put some speakers in the rear parcel shelf as obviously with the hood down it smoothers them.

borednow back in my  yoof I used to swear by jbl but im setting a £100 limit on this so their umderseat active is out of price range.

I was going to use an RCA converter off the rear speaker wires so I could use rca and have low input instead

I have been eyeing up the Kenwood offering, Halfords have it for 150 but that means 100 everywhere else

It fits under the seat in my cabby cos the seat base is height adjustable. It don't fit under the seat of my tintop though.

Check out Pioneers stuff. That seems to be pretty good for a lower price.

I looked into subs under the seat and then went out and got a 12" sub in a box and screwed on a amp to the back of it and stuck it in the boot. There's plenty of bass from the back now and it does not take up that much room in the boot. I've the same speakers up front and they do lack bass as the placement of all the speakers in the Mk1 cabriolet is poor so you are never going to get a out of this world sound.

Some sort of extra bass will help any ICE all depends on budget etc

Adding bass with a sub is all well and good, however, you really should also deal with the issue of distortion that the low frequencies are causing your 6"x4" fronts to make. In other words, the frequencies that you are now going to be getting from your sub, should be removed from the signal going to the fronts. Otherwise you will have distortion but with added bass.So some kind of cross over is needed. Now then, some head units allow for this in their settings, but we are talking high end stuff, so you are probably going to want to use some kind of passive crossover. The problem with this is that I doubt you will be able to buy an off the shelf cross over for a sub and main speakers. However, if you bought a 3 way amp for example which would consist of front left and right channels and a sub, they normally factor in this facility into their design with adjustable active crossovers built in.. But.. If you don't want the expense of that, you could try contacting a company called Wilmslow audio and buy a couple of capacitors to run in line on the positive feed to each front speaker which will filter out all the sub bass frequencies. They should be able to calculate the rough value of the capacitor required. Inductors in line on the positive feed filter out treble so this is why you see both used in crossovers. Hope this is of some use..
