40 year old car road tax and MOT info

How does this work?

My Mk1 Scirocco will be 40 years old 31st August 2018 but my MOT and Tax runs out the beginning of August so if I could avoid paying the road tax that would be good.

 Could I take the car off the road when the current MOT and tax runs out then 1st September apply for historic vehicle and use the car again, how long does it take to get the car registered or do I have to wait till January 2019 before I can apply?

any help advice etc would be great.

You can apply to stop paying vehicle tax if your vehicle was built before 1 January 1978. You must tax your vehicle even if you don’t have to pay.

If you don’t know when your vehicle was built, but it was first registered before 8 January 1978, you can still apply to stop paying vehicle tax.

Mot will run on the same basis.

How ever built and registered are two different things my mk2 escort was registered May 77 but built in 75 according to vin plate. If u can work your out on the vin and prove it to DVSA/dvla if it was built before 1st jan 78 you could do it. It very confusing tbh they haven’t made it clear enough imo

Instance.

I lost my Drivers License.  Went to the DMV, I had a copy of my Certificate of Live Birth from hospital ( Fire destroyed my birth records at the county seat.) , a Copy of my DD-214 seperation from Military.  Got "not Good Enough" from this evil bitty….  Took my Social Security card, 2 credit cards, "Not good enough"..Same old bitty…. They could look my photo up on the computer, and match it.  I took a certified copy of my Drivers license from work.  You Guessed it, the same old bitty "not good enough".  I looked at the other lady that was trying to help me, and she said out of ear shot of the Crone….. Do you have Children?  Yes, and do you have their birth vertificates, yes.  Go get one.

I came back and handed over my sons (who was 2 at the time), birth certificate, and she said ok, your card will print in a minute.  I asked her, but that wasn't my birth Certificate, to which she replied, on the form it doesn't say it has to be yours, just a birth certificate, I know who you are, the other lady is just a Beatch…..

Second Time I had issues with the same Bitty trying to get License plates, everything was not good enough, I blew my top,  I had waited in line for 2 hours, went through 3 windows, waited while everyone behind the counter took a 20 minute break at the same time, got to her window that she was monitoring… "There isn't a end date on your Insurance form." " Not Good Enough."  I said it is Company Funded, as long as I am employed, I have insurance….."  I ranted as I went out, stating that she wasn't a public servant but a tyrannically self grandized Tyrant, and I can see why folks go postal after dealing with the likes of her.  No one can check these things as you are standing in line for 2 hours… What a crock of Bovine Excretion….

I was fuming, got back to the office and my Boss could tell I was ticked off.  I related to him about this "lady?" at the DMV and how this was the second time I got "Not good enough." from her.

He Chuckled, Laughed, walked off, 20 minutes later, he came to my desk, and said go get your license plates….

I go back with the same information, and it was like the scene from the movie "WIZ" folks were smiling, lines were moving… Folks were happier than ever, checking your papers at the door,…. I got right through and got my plates, and I asked what happened to the "Bitty"…..

To which she replied, "She must of ticked off someone really bad…. Hers was a Patronage job, and she was the only Democrat in the office. So she was on the spot fired, and escorted out."   I smiled, and said, "Wow."

I get back to the office and my Boss came bounding up to my desk, saying did you get your plates?  I told him yes, and that office of the DMV was like a rebirth of friendly folks….It seams the old Bitty was fired.

He looked at me and said, well I am the the States Republican Party chairman… This is a Republican state, that was a Democratic left over patronage job, so I mentioned to the Governor, that she should be removed today.

Nice to know of friends in high places.

Moral of the story, it isn't that you are right or wrong, there is always some professional Bureaucrat that you find whose sole kingdom is under attack, and they use obscure reasoning that Satan himself created to really tick you off….and deny any and all claims.
