Mk1 GTI 16v Huge Spec! Amazing car.

?Y? 1983 GTI 16V LIGHWEIGHT FUN MACHINE; HUGE SPEC!
Due to a new job my circumstances are changing so I am forced to sell my recently completed baby. I can not begin to express how much time and effort I have invested into this car! Built for weekend blasts and the track, but due to other commitments it hasn?t made it to the track and it?s hardly been driven. Gutted.

The car will be available to drive away in a couple of weeks time as there are a couple of minor tasks to address before I?m happy for it to go.

Brief desc/spec:

-Mk1 Golf GTI 1.8 Lhasa Green, Sunroof.
-MOT and Tax ?til Nov 2009.
-Complete rebuild, restoration and 16v ?KR? conversion completed Nov 2008, just 2k miles covered since in mostly dry conditions (car only comes out of the garage in good weather).
-New paint, completely rust free and fully undersealed ans waxoiled. Sound deadening removed.
-Newly built ?box and Quaife ATB around 500 miles ago.
-TSR rose-jointed gear link kit and all other bushes replaced.
-ALL new suspension and steering parts (inc. poly bushes and Gmax kit).
-16v servo and master cylinder
-G60 280mm brakes with just fitted new Grp-N rotors and Yellow Stuff pads.
-Removed, repainted and rebuilt rear axle with all new parts.
-New G60 steels with Toyo Proxes-R rubbers.
-Front lower Club-GTI adjustable brace.
-Baffled sump and new diesel windage tray.
-SuperSprint R-Series large diameter lightweight exhaust and Ashley 4-1 manifold.
-New waterpump, thermostat, belts, silicone hoses, gaskets etc..
-Custom Magnecor KV85 leads (cost a fortune!)
-13-Row thermostatic Oil Cooler.
-720mm bar+plate Rad with front mounted slimline fan.
-Dash facia mounted gauges.
-Cobra ?Sebring-S? composite FIA approved fixed drivers seat.
-New deep dish suede Rally Design steering wheel.
-Fully stripped interior except door cards and headlining; this car is super light! (The original interior will be supplied though).

I have only recently completed this project and sold my minty Integrale 16v in favour of the fun little golf. This car is just sooooo much fun to drive and leaves me grinning every time I get to go out in it. I have recently splashed a large sum of money on it to ensure she?s track-ready. However, I?ll soon be starting a new job which requires more of my time and for me to move into the town so I?ll space for just one (practical) car. So unfortunately for me, she has to go.

The rebuild and resto was undertaken throughout 2008 in my rented workshop. Everything bar the fuel tank was removed and replaced/refurbished as required to a high standard. I have 100?s of photo?s detailing the process which will be given to the new owner. Please take a look at my build thread http://www.clubgti.co.…m/showthread.php?t=188632

The KR engine is very healthy, making over 7bar of oil pressure from cold and on the move when hot. It makes all the right noises and the previous owner told me it had just had a top-end rebuild (which I have every reason to believe). When I fitted the new sump I had a god look at the bores and I could still see hone marks. I estimate with the engine makes around 150bhp. The gearbox is as new and the Quaife ATB is just AMAZING! Just turn-in and plant it. The stoppers are also uber-powerful and fade-free.

To get a full appreciation of this car and the work done you need to speak to me and view it. However I have no doubts the first serious viewer will snap it up.

The only real negative point is there are a few small mistakes/imperfections with the paint; however the car was not built to be a concourse winner. It was built to be driven and to have fun! Still, it looks very presentable indeed and draws a lot of attention.

Price wise it?s difficult to say due to the work done and new parts, however I?m thinking offers in the region of ?4k are about right. However this will depend on interest of course.

So basically if you want a quick and reliable mk1 for fun, this could be the car for you! If I was keeping the car the next step would be more power and possibly a cage. However I just can?t keep it.

If you?re interested and want to discuss the car, please give me a shout and ?ill be more than happy to answer any questions. Please note at stated above, the car won?t be available to drive away for a couple of weeks as I want to complete a couple of minor jobs for the new owner (I?ll be happy to discuss this over the phone).

Also, I take some new photos when the sun reappears.

Thanks,

Rich

EDIT:

Just to clarify; this is a pre-campaign factory sunroof shell; so not a dodgy aftermarket tin-opener conversion. I do have most of the original GTI trim for it and it will be sold with bumpers fitted (one of the small jobs I speak of…).
