1.6 GTi for sale
Due to a change in plans Im selling my Mk1 Gti that I bought in April of this year to use as a daily runner so I could save my Rallye for weekends
The car has nearly 170,000 on the clocks which equates to about 7000 a year. When I bought the car I was told the engine was changed at 120,000. Ive owned VWs since Ive been 15 and the engine feels strong and starts on the button every time (I leave for work at 6am and doesn't struggle in the cold mornings)
The car currently doest have the bumpers fitted, however they are easily changed back without any hassle. There is also a full Safety Devices 6 Point with fixed diagonal Roll Cage fitted. The engine is standard, the only modification to it is a K&N Pannel Filter and a Back Box, however the car does come with a 4 branch Manifold and performance center section that Ive never got round to fitting.
The shell is very straight especially for a 24 year old car, no rust in the usual places, the struts etc are all fine.
1983 ? Y Reg
170,000 Miles on the Clock
Mars Red
Mot's from 1987, 1988, 1989 1990, 1991, 1992, 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2005 and 2007
Tax Discs from 1993, 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2006 and 2007
Paperwork from 1983 - 1998
MOT Till February 2008
Tax Till September 2007
This car is far from being perfect, but it's a very solid car and gets a lot of attention. Ideal as a daily but cool workhorse, or as a sound base for a project car, such as a 16v on TBs etc
PLEASE NOTE:
The car is not being sold with the Speedlines in the pictures, but either a set of dished ATS's or 15" 16v Mk2 Gti BBSs
?1200
Anyone who wants to get in touch or have a look, PM me and i'll give you my mates details, the car is located on the south coast between portmouth and southampton

Bad Points:
Bumpers and arches have faded a bit and have some marks, most noticable one is here:
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y152/grat...cs/DSC00426.jpg
Some rust at the bottom of the near side door and near side arch, it has gone thru but doesnt let in water, and not really noticable to be honest, never really bothered me
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y152/grat...cs/DSC00427.jpg
Near Side Rear Quarter has been skimmed and painted at some point, not and amazing job but isnt immediately noticable, doesnt detract from the lines
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y152/grat...cs/DSC00428.jpg
There was a deadlock fitted in the OffSide Rear quarter, which has a rubber bung in it now… god knows why anyone would have done that but again just a little thing
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y152/grat...cs/DSC00429.jpg
Sunroof leaked and had dropped badly, so was replaced with a dark blue metalic Mk2 unit, which was then secured and sealed as they always leak in thru there. To be honest, Id say its never gonna be able to get working and open again, again not something that bothered me
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y152/grat...cs/DSC00441.jpg
Two marks towards the rear of the roof, pretty much inline with the sunroof mech so probably to do with that

No headlining is currently fitted. I was trying to bid on one for a car without a sunroof but have got a bit way layed, trying to source one still, curretnly also cleaning up the internal roof area

Other bits with no pictures, cant seem to find the rear shelf supports or shelf, I was running the car without back seats so didnt bother me, bidding on a set of shelf supports so you could source a shelf of make one if desired.
The front seats shown are Mk2 16v ones taht dont tilt forwards, again was running no rear seats so didnt bother me. The original Mk1 Red/Black ones are going back in, drivers side has a big wear patch on the boulster as youd expect from a car this age, will sort a pic when its in. Dont know where the rear seatbelts have gone either at this moment in time
While the car starts every time in the morning, sometimes it does kick over quite slowly and sluggish, have put it down to a possible weak earth on the starter but hasnt failed to start on me yet. Also as usual with 8v Gti engines, it does tap ever so slightly from cold but pulls well and once its all warmed up the engine is like normal.
Oil light flashes constantly. All senders and sensors and levels are fine, its a common issue on Mk1 Golfs due to the clocks going as they get older. Ive got so used to it I dont notice it, can be bloody annoying as well. On that not the MFA screen does not work, it did when I first got the car but has stopped since.
The blower motor can be a little bit tempremental. If your on a bumpyish road with it on it sometimes cuts in and out, and while it works all the time on speeds 1 and 2 you sometimes have to perservear with switching it to 3 a few times to get to the top speed of it. Again, really never bothered me.
No rear boot lock barrel at the moment, have a VW badge over the hole, when I got the car it had some strange setup going on that didnt even work so took it off. Currently searching for one of those too.
The dashboard has been cut where the front vents are for the cage to sit thru.
Think thats pretty much it, car has a "performance" backbox on there atm, supplied with the car is also the 4branch manifold and sports centre silencer that accompanies the pipe, its loud enough for me at the moment tho, and gives a nice rasp. Will also be sorting pictures of the other wheels
When I got the car in April my brother (Ex VW Tech) Changed the cambelt and tensioner as well as oil and filter for me, as I do with every car I buy as a precaution. Car has a K&N Pannel Filter fitted. Also, the Radiator is a nearly new one from a Mk2 16v as the original one had split all around the top where the overflow pipe connects too, common Mk1 problem. Had a new clutch cable in May as it had previously pulled thru the bulk head, again typical Mk1 thing, now been repaired with the genuine VW Repair plate and has been fine ever since. I have a gear selector repair kit as well as the bushes to go with the car, genuine and unused VW parts that I bought when I left VW should I ever have needed them.
As far as stereo goes, there are components in the front doors with dash mounted tweeters, and at present there is a Kenwood CD player in there (I may have to take that one out and sort another CD player to go in there as Ive had it quite a while and Im used to it)
Its by no means perfect, but its a Mk1 Gti for ?1200 with tax and mot and a bit of history thats solid and sure to be either a great base for a restoration, customisation or just daily runner with a little difference like I have used it
If theres anymore pictures or information you want then please let me know, if I remember anything then Ill send another email! Im probably being really picky about things that are pretty much expected of a car this age, just want to be as honest as possible
