Tell me about it!

Just got back off holiday to find puddle in drivers side footwell.

Never had a leak on this car before, bum.

Anyway, heres were to look.

Door seals, a plastic membrane inside the door. Tell tale signs are drips from the bottom of the door card. To be honest I have never seen a big leak here but I have heard of them. have to remove door furniture to havwe a good look.

Front Windscreen seal. Normally on later models that have those stupid plastic spoilers. You can usually see the water on the inside of the car leaking at each corner before running down behind your dash.

Rear Window/ Hatch seal. Easy to tell, your boot will be wet!

Scuttle, good one this. water comes through the bonnet vents, into the scuttle. Then drains through two little holes either side which get blocked with crap. The water then backs up and goes down the heater fan hole which is underneath the brittle scuttle cover.
Or, the scuttle cover is cracked and dripping water straight down the heater fan hole.
Then check for rust holes. because water sits here practically every time it rains, then rusts through dropping water on you or your passengers feet.
Stick your head in the footwells, look up, if you can see daylight that's the problem.

Or, you left the window open, parked in a swimming pool or your passengers drool a lot.

Halfords windscreen seal sealant is a good easy to use product. It's just really messy.

Oh yeah and the front and back footwells are joined by a gully so it's not much of a guide to where the waters coming in I'm afraid. More of a guide to the angle at which you park you car.

Hope that's useful. If none of this works strip the carpets and go and sit in it in the rain and keep your water diviner handy.

I feel an evening of leak searching coming on…
