Door Mirrors removal.

Hi All.

Dont want to sound dumb but how easy is it to take of the door mirrors?.

I can see a screw on the fixing plate but cant seem to be able to get at it with a screwdirver. Do i have to take the door cards off and remove anything.

I have looked in my haynes manual but it doesnt really describe the removal very well.

It should be a fairly easy task i would of thought.

Thanks
Andy.

hi do you mean the gl/gti remote mirrors? if so there are two screws through the mirror body, you will need to turn the mirror though to get to them both, then yes remove the door card and you'll see the remote section has a nut round it, spray with wd40 as these do seize on, u may even need to clamp the back if it twist round but be carfully as this bit breaks easy, but that is about it really.
oh installation is reverse of above!!

That inner nut was a little bit of a puzzle to me too! :P

I just took off my mirror for a quick respray of clearcoat on the door.   But it is easy to remove - in my case, I just popped off the adjustment handle and then turned the nut with a pair of needle-nose pliers.  No need to take the door card off this way.

Once you get the nut off, you have to push the threaded sleeve into the door.  Then lift the mirror off the door. :D

Of course, I haven't put the mirror back on yet….so maybe I will regret not taking the door card off. :dontknow:
