a quick ? for cabby owners

when you go out for the day with the roof down and you park, do you put the roof up or leave it down ,I have seen cabbys parked with the roof down and always wondered if it was a good idea so would like to know what others do and why

It all depends…

On the weather!

After a while you'll be amaized at how good you get at judging whether some clouds are going to do their thing.

Also depends on how long you are away from the car. If you have valuables in it, whether you have a full closure alarm and what sort of area you've park it in.

Leaving a roof down for long periods isn't recommended. But a whole day would be fine.

As Ross says…. it depends on…

1. Weather
2. Area where you park
3. How far away you are from the car

I had some advice when I put my new (plastic) hood on, "Dont put the hood down in cold weather. It cracks at the folds". So I never have done and to date the folds have stayed crack free.

Hope that helps a little as the cold frosty days are quite tempting to get the hood down and heater on!!

Even though we have microwave fitted we never leave the roof down if we are out of sight of, or a few seconds away from the cars. How many times have you heard an alarm go off…….and everyone just carries on as though nothing has happened?

….and it's not nice to come back and find that a seagull has used your seat as a loo…….

Owning a Mk1 cabby is a vertical learning curve…

Thats reminded me - i found out that if you park with the top down very near the beach and its windy your car will fill up with sand!

I leave the top down if I am nearby or if the area is relatively safe.

I take off the faceplate to the stereo, lock the glovebox and the boot anytime I leave the car with the top down.

That is good advice about not putting the top down in cold weather or when the top has not been wiped down if wet.   To keep the top from staining or scuffing, make sure it is free of lots of grit before folding it on itself - think sandpaper between the folds. :|

All kinds of stuff accumulates in a car with no top : bird bombs, leaves, bugs, mean people that toss trash in it (common in pickup trucks in Texas), and dirt/soot/sand.  So be prepared for this visceral experience whether parked or actually behind the wheel.

But as with any other car, you really ought to just roll up the windows and lock it if you aren't going to be anywhere near it .

Cabrio security!

JPX said lock the glove box….If I were leaving my car parked anywhere I think I would prefer to leave the glove box empty and open to show nothing inside! Then they don't even bother getting in to find out!

Just because you can't find a T shirt tiny enough to be tight on your little 8 year old shaped body, you feel that a few derogatory remarks about my firm greek god like body will take the attention away from you! The other members of this club will see through your impish antics and shinanigans! NWM rule!  :D
