what is this?

just picked up a mk1 to use as a parts car for an engine swap into another mk1….

on the left hand side of the photo, on top of the suspension turret there is a small block with a few hoses and an electrical connection. I never had this on my old mk1, so….

what is it, what does it do, and i dont really want it mounted there when the engine is in the other mk1, so can i get rid of it or relocate it?

thanks, Oli

Its an idle speed valve, basically the 2 connections are either side of the throttle butterfly and it also has an electrical connection. It opens at certain points in time (warmup I think) to slightly raise the idle speed. Its not necessary, in that the engine will work fine without it; but its a standard part of the car and thus it has a purpose.
