thermotime switch

Hi Folks

HAve the usual cold start problems and issues with the car when running not pulling cleanly through the rev range. It feels a bit strangled. (1.8 gti)

Anyway feel its fuel related so got the old haynes out and have had a look around the board here to get some ideas.

One of the first checks i have done is to make sure the thermotime switch is working. Followed the test in haynes i.e. bridged the gap with a test light and it should shine with the engine cold for 3 to 10 seconds. Mine doesnt. Ive got no power to the switch. All Haynes says is check the fuel pump relay. Fuel pump seems to work fine.

Anyone had a similar problem and can guide me on what to do next would be great!
