switching off and some times perfect

Post

Hi All,

I'm having alittle bit of an issue. When i start up the car if feels as though not enough fuel is getting to the engine. Then it would switch off. Some times it would start perfect when driving around I can feel the car misfiring or loosing power/ spluttering then would switch off.

I've changed the spark plugs, leads, ignition coil, new battery, checked for any vacuum leaks, the prob still seems to be there, new fuel.

Does this sound like a possible faulty fuel pump? When the car works everything seems perfect. Again on the motorway all is fine. it's been doing this just recently.

Any help on this would be greatfull

If it is a GTI, it could be a fuel delivery problem (pumps) or it could be a fuel pressure problem. If you have got a Haynes it describes the tests to be done. You will need a set of pressure gauges, and 4 bottles for the quantity test.
