running too low rpm and temp too high

Hi Guys,
been on here a little while now so thought I would ask a question. Tried looking int he techy pages but can't seem to find what im looking for.

Basically I bought a 1.8 cab gti from someone on a local forum to me and the car was running fine, brilliant infact but the exhaust had a tiny hole somewhere and the revs were always very low 700rpm and during the winter I used my car as it was a daily.

The winter snow scuffed the exhaust and made it undrivable as there was no back pressure to drive the car, engine would start but when it did it would sound very horrible. Went out and bought a 4 branch exhaust and full jetex exhaust system and the car starts fine but what im worried about is that the car is up to temp 80c on the MFA after 5 mins at idle!!!! usually that would take ages so im thinking my car is running too rich? and how do i adjust it and the timing is still the same but i do need this fixed as there is little flexibility with the 4 branch…

so how do i adjust the fuel mixture so that its a bit better for driving to get it to a tuning shop and also the idle as its doing my nut in.

I remember a guy called Ralfe Pane said to remove a wire off the coil etc but tbh i cant remember what I done last night let alone what I was told 8 years ago from him :(

cheers
lewis

if its just a normal gti use a angle screwdriver to adjust your idle where you want it. co isnt somethign that you can do by ear plus the adjustment is incredibly sensitive. driving it to the shop shouldnt harm anything

is the idle screw the one up behind the inlet manifold?

yeah this is why you need an angle screwdriver/spanner to get to the wee bugger!
