oil disappearing?

My golf has failled it's mot, everything is ok, except it is blowing lots of blue smoke, apparantly burning alot of oil.  But the oil does tend to disappear, hardly shows up on the dipstick, car is only used for short distances, from what the mechanic said, it could be major engine work, oil seals-piston rings-gaskets-looking at ?400 - ?600 damage.
I think it would probably be better if i got another engine?
any idea's where to get one from? :dontknow:

Inquire about having your block bored out to a 1900 . not overly dear and after all , there is no replacement for displacement . Your head should need no more than valve stem oil seals and possably guides , ive never installed guides but the stems are a day in the garage with a mate and a haynes manual . Run a compression test too as this will give you an idea of how your bottom end actually is wearing . Good luck  :D
