Major oil leak 1.6 gti!!!
Started the old girl up last night and noticed a gurgling sound, looked round the front to see a pool of oil emerging from the car…. uh oh.
Switched off to investigate and looed like it was coming from the filter, and was spraying on to the front engine mount.
Got a new filter and fitted it this morning, started her up and guess what….. spewing oil out but looks like its coming from behind the filter now. If you have ever seen how much comes out with an oil pressure switch removed then this should give an idea as to how much is leaking out!!!!!!
Could the gasket for the the filter housing from the block have gone? Would it spew out this much oil?
I darn't start it up to find out as i have recreated the Exxon Valdez disaster in the street outside my house and the neighbours (more so blunkets bouncers if they appear) might get a little upset at the newly blacked tarmac out there!!!!
All the switches appear to be in place and i cant see any holes in the block.
Any help on this is greatly appreciated!!!

I've got the same problem at the min. Such a pain in the arse, have to keep topping up with oil.
Popped it into my garage and he located it to the gasket where the oil filter fixes to the block. He said its pretty quick job, just didn't have the gasket at the time. I wouldn;t worry about it personally, at least youve located it. Mine doesnt sound as shot as yours but just pop it in somewhere to double check.

should be a 5 minute job to change the gasket, just make sure you use lots of WD40 or penetrating oil on the bolts

pull off the rubber boot over the oil press sensor (sender) on the oil filter housing…I've had two Mk2 sensors fail where the spade terminal pops out through the nylon housing top (managed to hit daughter's boyfriend in th'eyeole when I asked him to check if any oil was spurting out as I cranked over the engine on the key). Surprisingly, quite a lot of oil spurts out of here and when the sensor boot is on its proper place, it just dribbles profusely down the block such that you really can't tell where its coming from.
Check it out!
Cheers
