Burning Oil..where to buy piston rings

Oh eck…oil consumption getting a bit high…keep overtaking people and leaving them in a cloud of blue smoke ( not very impressive)….did my valve seals last summer…Any recommendations for where to get a set of piston rings…can't seem to find them on GSF…should I try my local motor factor?

EEEk! just found some on Euro CP site - about ?55 for the cheep set….over ?120 for the other set!!! This is a bit steep, might as well swap the engine for that sort of dosh!
Any other suggestions….I'm in the really annoying situation of having two spare engines, but don't know if either of them works any better…it's a lot of work to find out they're worse than the original!

I normally go to these guys -  Pistons + Components (1935) Ltd., 281 Great Western Road, Glasgow, 0141-339-8685. - but then again they are local for me, but very helpful. I take it you've tried the old oil trick down the bores to check to see if it is piston rings ?

Hi, thanks for the advice- I'll try a motor factors near here when I decide it's got to be done. I haven't tried the oil trick yet, in fact I checked the compression before I did the valve seals, and it seemed pretty good - three around 180 psi if I remember right and one about 10 psi less, which didn't seem too bad on an old engine. I cleaned the cam cover breather completely, and renewed all the valve seals, but oil consumption is getting worse (400 miles per pint) and smoke definitely in the exhaust plume at high revs. Also there does seem to be a lot of crankcase pressure if if take the oil filler cap off while the engine's running…
Might check the compression again and try the oil squirt job,
cheers again
