Any tricks to replacing a transmission mount?

Post

Hi all,

There is an occasional clunk when I use the clutch on my 93 Cabby (1.8lt injected). I'm assuming its the mount and am going to replace it.

I've never replaced a mount before so I wanted to check with people here so I don't screw anything up (also, I'm on a time limit and don't want to underesitmate the amount of time this could take)!

Here's what I plan to do:

1. Raise the car on jack stands
2. Place jack under transmission housing to take the load
3. Undo bolts as shown in picture below
4. Replace rubber bit
5. Replace mount back on car, using Loctite

That's pretty much it, right?

Use a block of wood on the transmission so you have a buffer between the jack and the tranny.

17mm 19mm and 13mm are the nut sizes.
If you haven't brushed the threads with a wire brush and a squirt of your favorite penetrate oil.

Good day, 30 minutes.  You may have to pry the metal body mount off the studs… a good smack with a mallet, or pry with a flat blade usually does the trick.. but take the weight off the mount first as it will iron bind of you don't.

What do Divorces, Great Coffee, and Car Electrics all have in common?

They all start with GOOD Grounds.

Where are my DIY Links?

Check the front mount 1st as I've found it's that 1 that goes 1st.
