Could some knowledgeable person please tell me if a head off a 1.8 GTI will go on a 1.6 carb engine?I have a spare gti engine and have chance of an 86 cabriolet(1.6 carb)with buggered cylinder head.If so whats involved, what extra parts needed etc?Conversely whats the chances of finding a good 1.6 head?Which other VW cars had the same 1.6 engine?Anybody got one?
TIA
Mick

yes it should but you will need to blank off the injector holes.

Why not fit the 1.8 GTi engine instead of just fitting the head to a 1.6 block?

You could change the GTi engine to a carb or if the have the other bits (airbox/meter head injection fuel lines etc) with the engine change it to a Gti but it's a little more fiddly than converting it to a carb.

I know it's been 6 years since then, but I'm curious if you fitted the 1.8 head to the 1.6 block :)
