What engine is this?

Hi all,

I'm a newbie here. I've been after a mk1 for a long time, and there's an intriguing add locally to me. Only issue is that the owner doesn't have any information on the engine. The car is originally a 1.8 GTI, but can anyone let me know what engine is in it?

16v for sure, could be a KR, PL (1.8) or a ABF (2.0) you can find the engine code on the front right of the block below the head. If you struggle to see that, there should be either a big 1.8 or 2.0 casted onto the block exhaust side.
