low oil pressure after rebuild. (DX cabby)

hey guys,

my mate has just rebuilt his cabby's DX engine with new over bore pistons and parts due to alot of bore wear, and the fact that he wants to keep it original as possible! :)

his problem is come to starting it after half a min the oil buzzer comes on..

after knocking it off and starting again it runs for a little longer before buzzing,
after repeating this a few times it takes 3 mins before the buzzer activates.

i suspect this to be due to the oil warming up and thinning, and therefore not dopping in pressure..

the engine is a full rebuild. same oil pump, crank rods and head, but everything else has been sorted.

any ideas what could cause it?

Lew

It could be a number of things, I would stick an oil pressure guage on it to get a true reading. By the time the buzzer kicks in it can be too late…

Could be…
pump worn
gasket?
blockage
pressure switch faulty
wiring or earth
a massive leak

After doing a rebuild you should turn the engine over with no fueling provided (so it doesn't wash the bores) this primes the pump and oilways ready for it to run. once pressure has been established and everything is coated in oil connect the fuel and start her up.
