Electronic ignition failed - now car runs poorly

Right, for some reason after two years my little powerspark hall sender (points replacement) decided to give up the ghost.

Car has been pretty perfect over the last year until this point!

Now before it gave up completely, I was at about 4.5k revs in 2nd when it cut out completely (BIG jolt!) and then started working again for another 300 miles.

But since it failed completely the car runs worse than it did.

Now this could just all be in my head but here is what I think is wrong with it:

1. Down on power and just generally running rougher.
2. Rougher idle - even when raising the rpm to 1500-2000 before it'd not miss a beat, now every few seconds a misfire.
3. Pinking more than it did. (Used to do it randomly - could never figure out why as timing etc was spot on!)
4. And this is a complex one to explain:

Say we are in 1st, at idle just idling along. If I plant my foot it:

Pauses, accelerates, pauses, accelerates, pauses (but not as much as the 2nd pause), then accelerates, then pauses and by this point we are at 2k rpm and it settles down and accelerates.

I can only describe it as a sine wave of acceleration… except each consecutive dip in acceleration isn't as much as the previous one.
It's like a ball bouncing on the ground, the height after each bounce is less, if you get where I'm going here?

Now it's not only 1st (or from idle), it's all gears at all RPM ranges, but obviously this effect is most obvious when flooring it from idle.

I'm 99% sure this didn't happen before the hall sender failed, so what has it taken with it??

I'm going to go and get the mixture/timing checked to make sure that's still ok.

Replaced the air filter and all the vac pipes so far, plugs and leads are less than a year old.

When the car was at Crazyquiffs there was a mention of a air leak, however after looking for it we couldn't find it.
(A whooshing noise at idle was the reason for this thought)

Car is at 82k miles with a weber carb on a 1.5 JB engine.

Anybody got any ideas?

hi mate could you post some close up pics of your vacum hoses mines all to s* T .
what carb have you got fitted?
pinking is timing aint it?
my car run ok now i go 15 -30 miles and mine kangaroos then cuts out leave it 5 mins and runs for 5 mins then keeps doing this until it wont start again or the battry dies.

not to happy with her at the moment.

It's setup exactly the same as it is in post 15 (by peddlersgolf) in this thread:

Mines the weber replacement for the Solex 1B3, so whatever that is.

Sounds like you have bigger issues than I do!

You sure you are getting decent fuel pressure etc? Sounds like fuel starvation to me tbh because even without all the vac pipes attached mine runs without stalling, even if it is running badly!

Blackcherry i have already given you the info and answers for what you need to do including the filler neck and tank inspection and filter along with other things needed inc what your asking for now i.e the vac pipe setup fella.
You need to concentrate on sorting one thing at a time, not asking the same questions on other threads as regards the kangarooing in hope to get answers quicker as i have already done this and covered everything bud.
