1.5 gl and weber 32/34 dmtl, can it be done

yesterday i was pointed in the direction of a weber so jumped straight in and bought it  :D
My car is a 1.5 carb with manual choke, manual gearbox. i put a pic up and the carb has been identified as a 32/34 dmtl.

whats the cheapest and easiest way to fit this to my car?

where will i get new jets from and which ones do i need?

sorry for the noob questions but i really dont have a clue with this stuff.
i have tried the search but only get results for 1.3 and 1.6/8, is this a sign that this carbs not a good idea for my car  :dontknow:

thanks in advance.

off to update my build thread now  8)

the direct replacement carb for your 1.5 engine is a Weber 36TLP but you can make the 32/34 DTML fit with an adaptor plate, listed here

 http://www.fastroadcars.co.uk/shop/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=214

can get the jets from the same place..

cheapest and easiest way to fit would be outside your house, easy job if you have a socket set

Take it easy ; )

again quite a stupid question but is the only problem the fact its the wrong number of studs?
what size jets do i need?

isnt there also a way of using a 1.6 inlet?

its the wrong number of studs to fit your manifold, thats what the adaptor is for ; )

you could put a 1.6 manifold on if you have one - fiddly to do with the head in place though..

Take it easy ; )

I did this to my 1.5 gl mk 1 jetta and wasnt a problem, had to get a bit of rubber hose to link out the coolant supply that the old pierberg carb used.

Hi Andy77 - do you mean that you fitted the 32/24 DTML to the 1.5 manifold with the adaptor?  I'm also trying to find a solution for my 1.5 and would be really interested to know if you re-jetted it and whether you got it set up on a rolling road?

thanks

hi guys ive got a 1.5gx and ive done the 32/34 coversion on it using a mk2 golf manifold, carb etc and it was a nice simple conversion that makes a big diffrence to the little 1.5 in performance and engine note but due to it being a mk2 manifold the carb heater does'nt work because on a mk2 the outlet for it comes directly off the back of the head and as everyone knows the mk1 has the pipes running to the carb instead so it can be a pain in the cold

pretty sure a cabrio/scirocco/mk2 1.6/8 carb inlet manifold will bolt straight onto your head? if so fit one and mk2 golf and cabrio/scirocco weber will bolt right on

i just looked at this adapter plate and its 'two bolts' to connect to the manifold. but they have 3 bolts that secure the carburettor down? very confused :/
i need to do this conversion badly

Sorry to resurrect this thread but I was looking at doing this conversion myself.

I was told by someone at Fast Road Cars that the adaptor plate won't fit due to the bolt pattern.

Has anyone tried the method using a MK2 inlet manifold? I'm tempted too but unsure which manifold it is I need.

any mk2 1.6 or 1.8 carb, or later mk1 cabrio and scirocco :)
