have a read of my 2e2 carb faq for tips on how to fit it, otherwise get a weber with the right adaptor kit to fit your engine

ah bum, get yourself a haynes brown manual then its really good. worst case you can fit a mk2 golf inlet manifold and use the weber adaptor for that on yours if the specific adaptor for your engine is hard to find. just make sure the weber you get has the automatic throttle linkage setup on it!

only difference in the inlets is i think yours doesnt have a coolant channel in it? if not just leave the mk2 coolant pipes disconnected. if it does, cap off/join the old mk1 pipes as you wont need the coolant circulation on a weber

i had a very similar problem, as i have the same engine but manual transmission. i went to try and find a weber 36 TLP (which is what you would need) http://www.webcon.co.uk/Downloads/2008%20Webcon%20replacement%20carburettor%20kits.pdf but they're very hard to find. its much more likely that it isn't a carb problem and that you need to change the points/ fuel pump/ fuel filter/ spark plugs. id give that all a go and then hopefully it should be running a lot better and you can then get your timing/ co2 checked up aswell and she should run smooth as butter. also make your fuel return pipe isn't kinked when you fit your new fuel pump as it might be needed more with the added fuel pressure as that can cause some splutteryness. if you have any problems you can send me a pm as im unlikely to check back

Or what you can do is get a 1.8 inlet manifold and convert to a twin choke carb with a normal choke

Hi there mate not sure if youve resolved the issue or not but i had the same issue with my 1B3 on my 1983 1.5 GX. I did all the above changing points, plugs, filter, pump etc etc however it turned out to be the carb in the end, theyre prone to failing or so i was told by the RAC

i went down the weber conversion route and got myself one of the last kits from fast road cars but the guy who runs it did say that its possible to buy a gti inlet manifold, weld up the water inlet tracts and then run a gti carb thats been messed with a little bit so this could be worth looking into. Might want to phone crazy quiffs and fast road cars to get more info.

On a side note when i phoned euro car parts a cople of years back they said that they could still get the manual choke pierbergs so it could be worth giving them a call.

Hope you get it sorted
