MK1 Jetta Coupe 20vt

Cheers, I am. Love my little car :).

Yeah, they are super comfy to be in. They look really uncomfortable, but they arent. My large mate sat in his passenger seat for nearly 4 hours straight and he was fresh as a daisy.

Took it back up to roys today. New steering rack going in so I can drive it over 30mph without blood coming through my finger nails.

Took some quick iPhone pics on the way up.

Also been working on this again. Stripping it down to nothing. Wiring slowly coming out.
It's such a chore to work on as I can hardly even walk down the side of it. Cramped isn't the word.

The Ghia is being totally rebuilt. I'm in the process of stripping it to a bare shell and splitting the body from the pan.

Back to what seems to be it's main home.

Chopped some bits I didn't need off the rack. That should gain me at least an extra 3bhp.

Gone

How easy was it to do the steering rack with engine in ?? and did the rubber mounting nuts come off ok, as I really should change my rubber mounts !!!

Yep james it's driving at the minute, but needs to come apart again to sort the mount.

The rack wasn't too bad, it was impossible to get the old one out so I chopped a few bits off then it slid out. It was made hard because of my exhaust and cable shift. I ended up having to build the rack in situ. I fitted the rack first, then screwed the rods on. Some bits were fiddly but not too
Bad.

I've already bashed my new shallow sump a few times so the plan was to raise the engine.
Roy started the last mount at dawns crack this morning so by the time I got in he'd nearly finished. Thank you sir :).

Mount cut, lowered ( to raise the engine), welded, painted, fitted. Weve gone a bit too far ad The bonnet wouldn't shut.
I've had to lower the dump valve and a few other bits temp while i wait to be able to do it properly.

Got the bonnet shut only to find out that under load the inlet just hits the bonnet.
Looks like the mount needs to be tweaked be a few mm, what a ball ache.

Tracking done and the new rack had made it a million tes smoother to drive.

Still having tyre issues with new wheels so
Back to the trusty RS's.

Boost pipe is a bit squished, but it's only temp so the bonnet shut.

A bit more clearance.

A few of my cars together, including my dualfuel LPG vectra. I want to try out LPG for a bit and see what it's like.

Well after raising the engine and making everything else clear the bonnet I found out the inlet was just rubbing the bonnet. I thought long and hard whether to lower the engine back down a few mm or tweak the bonnet. After going over the speed bumps by my house and the sump not touching once the decision was made.
Beat the bonnet.
So after some body modification it looks like this, when the bonnets up it's not obvious at all.

All that to find it now rubs a bit further down, so I'll have to start again and paint it.

Then once it's stopped rubbing I'll have to paint the inlet for the 1245644 time.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^ What the?
Sounds like one of those scam emails on autotrader?

A few from early edition, the most Average show of the year.

Engine raised and looking more level.

This is where the inlet rubbed on the bonnet.

Wheels day, a massive American show local to me on good Friday.

A bit more of an update.

After i raised the engine i have tweaked the bonnets more times than i can remember.

I think this is the third go, still rubbing.

As the bonnet was now shutting better, it started to hit the top of the air box, so a tweak was needed.

Both painted

The inlet needed a quick blow over for the photo shoot, it isnt great, but had to do.

Accelerator pedal painted

IC water bottle fitted, i used a tank i found kicking about at roys.

Seeing as ive gone to all the effort to raise the engine to give the sump a better chance at living, well it seemed rude not to drop the car some more :).
The sump now sits above the lower strut brace, so its that that should scrape now and not the sump :).

Its come down quite a bit, but if im honest it doesnt look that different, so as i like to drive the car it may well go back up a bit.

A few pics next to the missus mini.
