Mk1 Caddy Project/Jetta Coupe Tinkering

Post

Morning

This is going to be a general thread of my Caddy Project

I started this build a few months ago but put off putting a build thread up as it’s not going to be the quickest build so wanted to get a bit ahead before showing some things I have done

Most updates will be a few weeks after I have actually done the work, hopefully so it doesn’t dry up along the way

Don’t have massive amounts of time to spend on the caddy, especially now it’s getting dark early and it’s on my drive, I have a good welding fabrication background and maybe bar painting it will be doing all the work myself, with some help from my friends and fellow enthusiasts.

So here goes, this is what she looked like when I bought her from my sister a few months back

Hope you enjoy
Chris

Was 340BHP in there previous mk2 golf

Also managed to pick up a 6 speed Touring Car Gearbox with possibilities to make it sequential, Built by VW Motorsport (Fully Stamped)

So i then started to Strip the caddy ready for resto

Took the front gubbins off-

Seats Out-

Started Paying For Itself-  £5.30 in total

Doors-

Got The Back Up-

Then The Front-

But Due To Picking This Jem Up Next Weekend The Turbo Plans May Change-  Some Of You Will know this One

Then decided the engine would be the next to come out-

First took the head off, the engine was getting scrapped so it really didn't bother me, couldn't get at the bolts to undo the down pipe so got frustrated and just cut it off-

Then I managed to drop the engine out through the bottom as I was doing it on my own, dropped it onto a trolley and rolled straight out, but as it would I managed to round a drive shaft bolt so couldn't get one side off-

Split the engine from the gearbox as I had someone from here coming to pick it up, can't remember who sorry, then had to think about how I could remove the bolt, decided to cut down through with a angle grinder and try a flat head impact driver to remove it, worker a treat-

Engine bay with engine out -

Then managed to strip the rear lights, loom and other bits of the back, the tailgate came of a long time ago and got stored under my bed for safety-

At this stage I realised the garage had started to fill up-
