VW Golf Beginner: restoring wheel arches
Hi, I have a X reg 4 door GL in gamba red.
The engine and mechanics are sound.
I've been slowly repairing rust spots all over the body and have reached the back arches which are rusting away.
What's the best way to tackle this?
I was thinking of a general wire-brushing/sanding to get rid of the rust then paint/seal and cover with full length spats.
I'd like a second opinion. I'm working out of my shed without any major tools etc and on a budget.
any info appreciated
cheers

Have a look at this and this. These are quite detailed restos on some very bad arches.
Not sure if yours are as bad - if not, then you may only need some new panels from Hadrian or eurocarparts etc… and a bit of welding. If you post some pics up people can give you more specific advice though.

rear arches
cheers mate.
I'll get some photos sorted this weekend.
The arches are just rusted along edges, inner arches seem OK.
I've never been near a welder in my life so I don't fancy replacing panels.
BTW
I replaced the front wings but there are no inner arches! Can you buy these of the shelf?
cheers again

Hiya con,
How's the resto coming along? Any pics yet?
Apologies for taking forever to get back to you on this - the front arches are constructed a bit differently to the rears, so the front "inner arch" is the part which the wing bolts to.
There's no equivalent part to the inner arches on the rear…
