The red baron.
Since owning my minty mk1 golf Campaign edition 5 years ago I've been hankering after another one… In the last few years I've dabbled with an e30 318is, a 325ti compact, mr2 mk3, and a brief flirtation with a diesel Pug, which I all enjoyed in their own way, but I didn't like them as much as I liked my MK1 golf.
I picked up this at a price I couldn't resist:
She is awesome, it pulls like a train and barely touches diesel, which is nice!
The conversion was done by a friend of mine, it has the mk3 golf clocks, pedal box, clutch, gearbox, brakes as well as the engine. She is a bit rough around the edges, but these little issues will be sorted as soon as possible. Things like the passenger door needing a new handle, a new headlining is needed, the dash needs sorting, the paint on the roof needs some love, all minor things but I'll do them bit by bit!
This is my daily too!
She's a marathon and not a sprint! In the 5 weeks of ownership I've replaced most of the cooling system, got rid of 4 of the 7 fault codes, had the window lifter thing snap (is wedged in place until the new ordered ones arrive!), sorted the heater blower, and a few other odds and sods! She's taking shape slowly!

I'd say this one is a fair bit quicker than my old GTi, and there is further fettling planned once the body work has been sorted out!

Update time!
Anyways, I've done a fair bit to her I took the hand painted roof back a bit to tidy her up a little:
Then painted it black:
As you can see there used to be a sunroof, and unfortunately with time ticking on I didn't have enough of it to make a seamless job with the filler, still it's a lot better than it was before!
I bought some vinyl to hide some of the lumpy bumpy bits to get me through the winter and had some fun with the OH cutting it out and fitted it:
This is probably not staying on long as there is rust poking through, so I'm going to give it another bash and this time Kurust it!
I've also bought two sets of wheels one of which was 15x8 (advertised 15x7.5) with hideously stretched rubber - 165/50! They didn't look awful until I bought them, thanks eBay, I punted them on for a little profit, so not all was lost! I don't subscribe to the stretched tyre thing at all!
I bought instead some brand spankers Rota Grid V's with Toyo Proxe T1R's in a more proper 195/50, they are 15x7 et20.
They scrubbed like a mo-fo on the rears:
This was the weekend before last, so last week I purchased an arch roller and this weekend my brother, his friend and I set about rolling the rear arches, and jacking up the car to make the wheels fit better. After 6 hours the end result was good:
Since jacking up the hideous Raceland coilovers to a respectable height it's a whole lot easier to drive! Next on the agenda is to suss out which suspension to go with (keep the ride height as is -40mm) and sort the roof out…
All good fun!
