silver 3dr BAM powerd 4wd GTI resto project

hey to all on here,

had this car for acouple of months now but finally got a start on it.been waiting for a council garage to come up as it's the only way i can get a place to work on it.

It's a complete original car, never been welded or painted, still got the factory order stgickers that are on the drivers door jam!it's done 119k miles and has had 9 other owners,i'm going tobe doing a full resto on this as it's seen better days.

just afew pics for now in it's new home!

yeah it's alot of work, but compared to some of the shells that get full resto's done on them this is a good honest shell.

gonna start making a rotating frame soon once it's fully stripped, only have about 3hrs in it so far and i've got the seats out,doors/bonnet off and the whole front suspension off,

plans are
20v turbo motor
porsche fr brakes
mk2 rear brakes
coilovers
16's (smallest that'll go over brakes)!!!
keep it nice and clean almost euro style.

more updates soon.

cheers

Andy

well abit of an update from today, started on the drivers side sill, thought i was gonna uncover a load of rust and problems! well to say that i got a big supprise which was that the sill is in great condition,it's never been welded, all original 28 year old metal!!!!!!!!

here's acouple of pics

this is the worst bit, needs some plating todo.

there is some points that look like this, clean metal but pitted, whats the best way of treating it?
rust converter?
etch primer?
cutting it out and replacing it?

cheers

Andy

yea its a shame, its just too deep and if you sandblasted it... you would probably end up gonig through it, as the rust will have mades its way through

the worst thing is that the sill is rock hard, hit it with a hammer and it sounds solid!!just a dumd thudd sound!!

Been awhile so thought i better get an update done of what i've been doin on it!!!

got all the front end striped off wire brushed, etch primered and painted.

afew pics of wishbones
etched,

painted

now fitted with poly bushes,

also been making a start on the body side of things,

drivers side inner wing,

then the end of last week a nice package arrived for me,

this

day off today from work and the wife/kid so started on the floor pan to see whats it like, turned out very good. only bad bit is the pass side beam mount point where there is a bigish hole, easy to plate over though!!!!

not bad considering it's never been welded or painted!!28year old paint and still going strong!!!
