Rivage small project ( some pics )
Hi this isnt a hardcore project like alot on here, but im only a novice to the mk1
When I first seen the Rivage for sale I jumped at the chance to buy it I wanted one of these for years! With only 80,000 miles and no rust what so ever, I knew I had found the right car. There were a few things wrongs which I was still glad to take it away and start fixing it, these problems got a little more than I originally thought but got over the worst. Also there were a few bits missing from the standard rivage, which thanks to a few people on here I sourced.
Here is a list of things I done and have now been fixed.
1. lights dimmers didn't work - Works now
2. wipers electrics didn't work and stalk - replaced
3. electric Arial didn't work - Working now
4. rear bumpers, wheel arches were badly scratched now re sprayed
5. New drivers shaft
6. New clutch
7. Oil filter change
8. New cam belt
9. New Air filter
10. New plugs & distributor cap
11. New plate Lights
12. New hood cables
13. Missing knee bar dash
14. Missing glove box
15. Missing interior bits
16. Sourced original wheels - polished and now lacquer treated
17. New Toyo Proxe tyres
18. Restored Karmann badges
19. Took interior seats and cleaned leather
Things still to do
1. Source seat heater switch
2. Work out why electric roof has a mind of its own
3. replace speakers
4. Find GTI badge for rear
I would like to thank this forum and the people who have helped me out I would never have done it without you lot
Cheers
Jay

Tony
i got it in the garage in bits at the moment for a full respray as the paint work didnt look right ! one of the previous owners had given it a paint job which wasnt the best , i couldn't live with it ! plus got a really good deal on the full respray of my mate but its gonna take a few weeks
Also i got the switch for the seat , pluggin in great , it was bigger than original so wouldnt firt in the housing , and managed to turn on one of the seats but now doesnt work so i dont know if its blown a fuse or something
Also got strut mounts changed and now the banging over pot holes has gone !
Hows your coming along ?

mines in today… hope i get it back (going to NEC in it tomorrow)
they are doing the remaining engine mounts the arb bushes.. and a water leak
and they rang me this morning to say my cam belt is looking a little worse for wear so they are doing that too!
I notice your rivage decals look like replica ones.. you can get exact ones of Walt on here if you are respraying.. also it looks like you have sportline clocks (orange needles) in :dontknow:

no it looks like it's an old version of the mk1 badge and the nubs didn't fit the tail gate holes ! the rivage seems to have a more embossed gti golf badge ,from what I have seen on pictures, same as the vw logo and Volkswagen badge on the left of tailgate! no fault of urs mate, I asked for golf gti badge you supplied me one! it's my 3rd attempt , so if anyone does have the correct badge to sell pm me

might be worth going into vw, giving them your reg no and asking them for a part no.. if they can get you a badge then great if not you have a part number you can look for on the classic site

Hi Debs..

Poor fella, he was ripped off by his local VW dealer and by the time he realised he had made a mistake, I had bought it and for the next couple of years he had to look at his old car in the NEC classic car show.. He must be gutted.. What did he have to say?..

Aww thats sad, he seemed a nice chap. He was just hoping to see you there with it again. He was obviously still quite proud of it, and was talking about the awards he knew you had won with it.
