Project WOS
Just picked this up at the weekend and amazingly it was only 5 miles from my home. Must be the closest I've ever gone for a car in my life
Hasn't been used for 3 years and needs a good bit of work but it starts and all indications are its a proper campaign model although some tinkering has gone on in the past by the looks of things
My intention is to get it back to looking its best so will be constantly looking in the 'parts for sale' section for a 4 lamp grill, front spoiler, mk1 dashboard and genuine golf ball gearknob to start with.
I'll post pics as I go along but here it is as I brought it home

Areas where I knew were in need of metal work are the rear arches, sills, rear lower valance and spare wheel well. Looks like that area only requires a patch though.
While I was at it I thought I would start looking at the electrics. Now I'm not sure if the dash is indeed from a 16V mk2 or thats just a badge the previous owner has stuck on but there are various annoyances about the whole set up
The MFA clock works but when you switch anything else on it dissapears :dontknow: The heater blower doesn't work, the wipers dont work (front or back), the hazards do work, the heated rear screen switch works and the clock lights dont
I am assuming that either the original loom has been butchered to fit the mk2 dash or even a mk2 loom used, I dont know. If anyone can tell from my pics then feel free to give me a clue. I guess I'll need to add a mk1 loom onto my ever expanding shopping list.
Also, anyone know where I can get a pairt of sills? CrazyQuiffs state 'Note: these sills are only available for the early style which does not have the depression for the later sill trim ' My car is a 1983 so I guess these wont do :dontknow:

Got to the bottom of why the windscreen wipers weren't working - wired incorrectly! Surprise surprise
Also looks like I may have uncovered why the heater blower wasn't working either - Yes thats a melted block connector there !
And thats duck tape instead of insulating tape round 'spare' wires
Looks like the mk2 clocks are from pre 1990
And I'm not sure where these stalks are from so I've put up a topic in the 'electrical' section about them.
Every cloud has a silver lining though as it appears from my untrained eye that the mk2 clocks have been used with a good length of mk2 loom from the instruments and then 'joined' to the existing mk1 loom. This means that when I get a mk1 dash and instruments I should be able to wire everything neatly and then Roberts your Mothers Brother
