OOPS!`
So I cut out the rot on my wifes cabby……
She panicked a little….(actually she cried). But I had to do something about the severe bodged repair panel that had been welded on top of the original rusting metal and filled with about a quarter inch of jam and filler. There's some bodging gets out there, I even have the bill in the history file who did it! Watch out in scotland, there's some overpaid amateurs out there!!!!! (i'll not mention the name, as they probably don't even trade anymore)…. I hope……

ouch!!! I'm scared to remove the trim from my gti for this reason…. be careful mate you could end up having a whole new car like jellybelly (check his gti thread - not his cabby one).

Name and shame! No point in saying watch out and not saying who to watch out for really.
Shame about the mess they made. Hope it works out in the end for you

I found the sill has been bodged as well. It's only been welded on the bottom and they have used 'jam' to connect the sill to the door sill. Ah well more welding practice I suppose. Rest of the car looks to be in pretty good nick. As for the 'bodyshop' I've found the other side has had a repair panel put in and that has been done really nicely. So I'm not sure what side the garage did! Wouldn't want to smear a garage if they didn't do that side. I have got the repair panel Just a case ofweld, weld, grind, grind for some hours now. A few more plates and a new sill and then see if theres anymore rot I can attack! Then I'll have to do the interior in red leather and put a nice new hood on. The list goes on. Wife is paying for materials, she is a demon at getting cheap parts . I'll keep you posted

I have recently retrimmed some aircraft seats and thought this look might look nice in the cabby, what do you think?

Finally started work on the cabby!
So,
After chopping out the mess. Fresh metal was welded in ( weld, grind, weld gring etc). All rust cut out, other bits and bobs found. New wing, new sills (hand made) new boot lid (second hand), new back slam panel (remodelled from a new tin top one) and finally, a new door (second hand). Fillered, etc, rubbed down, refaced, rubbed down, primered, rubbed down(you get the picture). big pics, sorry!
Shiny new wing
New rear slam after stonechip paint.
Looking poorly before new panels….

Ah…. about the donor cars…… They aren't donor cars!!
The white one has a 20v turbo in it. the others are runners, or in the process of restoration! The white caddy is now sold The guy drove it from Derbyshire to Scotland!!!! (He was brave.) it had been stood for a year. Mind you it went straight through an MOT. There is about another 10 mk1's (and others) in various states! Very secret location!
