My new golf

This is my new restoration job. A 1985 1.8 gti cabby. I got it of myu mate at works brother for ?400 a steal at that if you ask me.

you could e-bay the seats for nearly half of what you paid if they're in good nick…..that would make it a real bargin 8)
What sort of damage is on the rest of the car?

Nothing at all.The mmobiliser mucked up so my mate sorted that out. It had three emmobilisers in it.



Could do with a good dash to.

It looks in good nick apart from the obvious, good roof, etc.

So how bad is it? can you get away with just the front panel, arches, grille? Are you doing the work yourself?

Ye its in really good nik for being twenty one years old.It has 144,000 miles on the clock and has only done 3000 in the last four years.iv,e got a new front panel for it, i also need to put two front chassis leg sections in as where the crossmember bolts into is rusting away. i was finking bout puttin two new wings on it as the wings are not original and im goin to respray it again. It was a new roof on it. I dont no if i im goin to keep it as i want an earlier mk1 thats not a convertable, mayby i could have both thats a thought. Im goin to do the work my self as i am a time served panel beater/spraypainter.

They are, I'm going to have to sell one soon but don't know which one to get rid of yet (I think I'll be keeping the Sportline). I also have a hatchback GTI in the garage that I need to weld new arches onto… thats in my avatar. Both cabs are in pretty good nick now but still need things doing to them. The Sportline came of Ebay for ?840! But I've spent a bit on it now.

What happened to the towing eye on your car! Looks a bit like someone tied the car to a lamp post and slammed it in reverse!  

Ur not far away. My mates brother took it for a pre mot (it past no bother) and they were towing it up the road and thats wen the front ripped of it. Then it lay in his drive for 6months now i have it. Always wanted a mk1 golf since i was wee always liked them.

So is that what caused all the damage?

yep so will never be towing it again anyway

Bit of a bargain there, front end damage should be easy to sort out.

Looks like someone forgot they were towing ops: . Actually saw a similar thing happen a while ago. The tower drove off clearly forgetting he was towing a car and pulled the towing eye off  :doh: .
