Cheers mate,
You've a fair bit to do yourself.  You've made a fair difference already.

I was working on mine this afternoon and discovered more rust in the drivers footwell on the centre tunnel.  It will be easy to fix though, once I have taken the exhaust off.
I will post more pics soon.

thats where i'm lucky mines mostly gone on the shell arches etc my rear drivers seat belt gone too on /near rhte rear arch sounds like a commom fault. only prblem i got with the floor pan and chassis is te rear drivers side has rotted away and the towing eye fel off years ago off her own accord and where a tow bar been bodged on there is a big hole in the bottom off the spare wheel well. vrs a local panal specialist can get every thing i need to complete part from seat belt mount and chassis. they do sheet metal and 2"x6" lip so i'm alright there. i got mk2 gti arches to modify and fit ready got stiffer/lower shocks and springs on order as the standard ones are leaking and badly corroded the front calipers are siezed and so badly corroded the drivers broke on removal and the rear drums had loose peices off itself inside when i removed them so there shaged so yes got alot off work but important bits are fine (unless i find anything else)

hello!

Holy rust worm batman  8O i thought rov761y had som major amputations to do . i admire the commitment but would finding a cleaner shell not be an easier way to go . Am i right in thinking that vw started using wax injection in 1984 ????  :dontknow:

The shell aint really too bad (honest).  It's the old problem that you hear everyone talking about.  The underseal lets water in at one point then it gets trapped between the good underseal and the floor and starts to rust the floor.
Wait until I get the camera under the rear end, theres a fair bit of work to be done there in replacing the rear chassis legs.  Rov716y Hadrians do 4 chassis legs for the mark 1, 2 for under the boot and 2 for under the rear axle area. I can supply the panel numbers if you require. I shall consult my Hadrian body panel book.

Will post more photos of my progress shortly

I have now fitted the front lower panel and was happily grinding down the welds when her indoors told me to quit as it was about nine o,clock and I would end up with an ASBO.
Got loads of gas now. I got the CO2 bottle filled for a tenner
Will post more pics later.
Sorry about the quality of some that I've already posted, all you can see is rust.

Folks, firstly it's been a while but I'm back.

Secondly it is with great sadness and regret that I must inform you that my first mark 1 Golf project is soon to be replaced with option 2   , which is a mars red GTI shell which is solid  :D .
I'm afraid I've taken the easy route and yes you,ve guessed, it's the end of the road for the old girl   .
Well hopefully I may be able to sell it on for much cheapness and allow someone else to continue on with the project.  However if not I will strip it down and then the shell will be on it's way to mark 1 heaven.
Will post photos of the new shell once i pick it up.

Hopefully I may be able to get rid of the old car to someone who will finish it.  If not I shall take the grinder to it, cut off the new front panel that I welded on, and some other bits to repair the minor bits on the new shell, then it's off to the scraappy to see whether he will give me anything for it.

yes he took the easy option and bought my red mk1.The car is solid as it has stood in my garage for the past 4 years and was partialy stripped down awaiting restoration but lack of time and the fact that my brother bought me a mint original mk1 campaign.also i have a mint corrado g60 thats been sitting in the garage for the past 2 years and i want to concentrate in making it a show car.I felt it was time to let go and im glad its going to someone who will put the time into completing the project.
