Thanks,

Tackled the other side's bodykit this morning.

Quite a bit quicker as I knew exactly how to do it. Maybe the freezing cold and pouring rain also had an effect?!

Arches bonded on…

Cill trim rubber in place. Putting the car back together makes me appreciate how well these cars are built. Considering it's 20 odd years old everything has gone back perfectly!

Wheels back on…

Cleaned up my wheels and tried out the new centre caps…

Took a couple of 'arty' shots too. Thought they looked quite good…

If it's raining tomorrow I won't be working, so may crack on with the roof…

Amazing!

Such a good thread!

Just spent the last few hours of my evening reading through all this.

Makes me want to do it all to mine. Just wish i had the money and a garage

Its looking so good bet you cant wait to get it finished and take it out properly.

Definitely worth the money you have spent, this car will last for ever!

Keep it coming  :D

Thanks very much.

Welcome to the club!

Started on my roof today. Was going to take lots of pics but was too busy making sure I got it spot on.

After an hour of thinking about it, I thought best to just crack on and get stuck in.

Headliner 1st. Wasn't too bad, took about 3 hours.

Really pleased with the result. Nice and tight. Can anyone tell me where the flaps go on the rear 1/4s of the headlining?

Then started the interliner and padding.

Had real fun and games trying to get the front spring bar back in! Maybe someone can shed done light on how to do this also. It was difficult to get the v in the bar facing backwards and clipped in to it's fixing points.

Anyway. Got there in the end. Another hour or so and I can get going on the mohair.

Hi,
I have the interior out of mine at the moment and the two flaps on mine just sit under the trim panel that covers the hood frame hinges … hope this helps.

Thanks.

Ah. I see. Do they fix to anything?

hi again. looking awsome mate fair play.

the flaps fold under the back shelf end plate thing and get pierced with sharp metal bits that you fold over so it holds them in place.

keep up the good work, we're all watching :)

Hi,
I recieved some trim restorer today that was recommended to me by a guy in Halfords who is a VW nut. And I have to say it is amazing stuff. I would hghly recommend it. I did my hood hinge cover trims and it looks like new. I will post some photo's later.
Braver man than mee to tackle the hood.. I should hopefully be in the UK for the AGM. If I am I will look forward to seeing you car there..absolutely stunning..love the colour!
comes in a tiny bottle for a £25 but it goes a long way. Here is the link- It says it is for exterior trim but works brilliantly on the interior stuff too!

Done a few more bits today.

Started making my sub box for the boot install. Managed to get a sub that only needed .75cubic feet capacity so the box is as small as possible and leaves some room in the boot (not a lot!)

Cut my MDF to size:

Screwed and glued it all together:

Topped it off with acoustic carpet to match my boot install and fitted the sub and terminals:

Also made a start on the badge refurb (thanks Chortle for the kit…excellent!)

Original badges were a bit tired and had been hand painted at some point:

Stripped them back:

Fresh coat of gloss black:

Decals applied:

Final couple coats of clear lacquer and hey presto!

Hi Mate,

looking really good!

Just wondering if you could tell me what you stipped the badges back with and where did you get the decals?

Hi,

Thinners and sandpaper working from rough to fine grit.

Got them from chortle on here.

Really good quality!

Make sure you lacquer them after application to make sure they don't come off.

Between this…

And this…

Spotted it?

Chrome valves added today. Look much nicer IMO.

Finished the interliner and padding this afternoon…

Mohair to go on tomorrow! Colour is an almost exact match to the car. Should look good I hope?

Also fitted my replacement grill…

Roof finished updates tomorrow…

Hooray! Finally got the roof skin on.

OMG it is tight tight tight!

Thanks to Chortle once again for helping out on the phone.

Thought I'd done something wrong as I was struggling to close the hood due to the roof being so tight.

Went to the garage this moring armed with a watering can and my brother.

Soaked the roof thoroughly and clamped it as close to closed as we could. Left it for an hour and did the same again.

Still not closed completely but going to leave it overnight and repeat tomorrow.

I had to loosen the hooks on my handles so they would reach the locks. I'll adjust as it stretches.

I hope it'll stretch!!

As it stands currently…

Still has a good few inches to close properly but I'm hoping it'll stretch over the next few days…bit….by bit…

Will let you know…

Roof is slowly stretching.

Got it stretched to the max today.

I now have electric rear windows too!

Pics to follow tomorrow.

Will be fitting the underlay and carpets tomorrow.

Having a cold start issue at the moment, will post something up on the engines area.

Ratchet straps my friend lol...You got the roof to close now?

Pretty much. One side is being a real pig. Clamped it shut and soaked it again. Will leave it tonight. It's stopping the frame from pulling forward properly.

Will cutting the rear screen help provide a bit of slack, or should I do that once its stretched?

Is there any adjustment on the middle roof rail? Seems a little high.

You need to space the intermediate rails out.
Proper positioning of the webbing straps is a must.
The inter liner and pad must be fitted with the roof closed as much as possible so it doesn't interfere with the hood spacings and doesn't impinge on the closing and opening actions of the frame per se.

The widow must only be cut out with the hood in the fully closed position.

Otherwise it will result in incorrect window positioning.

Got my dash fitted today…

Was left with a connector and can't work out where it goes. Everything is connected up!

Any ideas??
