Liking the wheels! 5 speed sounds like a luxury that I may have to get! Tell us how it goes, not sure if my 1.3 could pull in 5th!

thanks man. yeah it should be good. the gear box was built for this engine so hopefully it wont be too much of a dead gear.
anyway onto the important stuff, picked up the engine gear box, mounts, drive shafts, gear linkage, gear stick, wiring loom etc everything i need to do the swap.

really looking forward to getting stuck into this. its the first time i have ever done anything like this and i cant
wait to start it :D

thanks bud
right so i went into barnstaple to pick up the tools i needed. could of borrowed them but it  is nicer to know i have them now if i ever do something like this again.
while there i met my friend jack who came to give me a hand. unfortunately his mk2 golf decided to spit out its track rod so we spent the first few hours working out what was wrong and fixing that!  :P

then we got onto the important stuff :D undo drive shafts and mounts

empty bay!

gave it a quick clean as best i could

we started changing some of the bits from 1 engine to the other. had to modify the gear box mount to fit the bigger box but nothing a drill, a hacksaw and some swearing can't sort :D
i will continue cleaning the bay tomorrow and i will swap any part over that need swapping and that i can do on my own. might have the new engine in sometime this week if not it will be at the weekend hopefully :D

didnt get a massive amount done today as i had work and there isnt alot i can do on my own. however i did clean the bay up some more, i got the new 4 branch manifold fitted and i oiled up the gear box so everything moves smoothly.

does anyone know how to do a wire tuck as i want to de clutter my bay a bit. nothing major just lose a few wires.

right so i had a very productive day today. after a chap came round and fitted the clutch and gearbox back onto the engine, i picked a few bits up from crezz and i got stuck in to getting things back together.

engine and gearbox now 1 component.

cracked out the crane!

engine back in and all monts fitted and tightened up :D

rad back in, inlet manifold fitted and as much of the wiring plugged back in as i can do as some of the connections are in different locations or just not there.

on the look out for a carb that will fit a polo coupe inlet manifold. got to do a bit more wiring. also got to modify the gear stick to accommodate the 5th gear (not quite sure how to go about it) but im getting there and for an afternoons work im happy :D it will be smash round the south west roads soon :D

Cheers guys, I've lost a bit of enthusiasm for the mk1 as I have the wiring to do and I suck at wiring. Really need to get it done but just can't bring myself to do it. :/
