lhasa green gti project
anyway today i went out and had a good poke around and have found the following welding needs doing:
new n/s arch
sill repair on the n/s/r
inner arch n/s/r
rear panel n/s
rear panel o/s
tow eye is shot (can i remove this as i dont intend on towing anyone?)
o/s/r arch
o/s/r inner arch
o/s/r sill
small hole in the floor
o/s/f jacking point
o/s/r wheel has a bit of play
o/s/f wheel has a bit of play
o/s/f tyre needs changing
windscreen needs replacing as it has loads of little chips
thats about it so far,the brakes feel good and the hanbrake is very good,its got a disc conversion on the rear
im going to swap the engine for another one ive got as i know that it runs good,anyway heres a few pics of the ad and when i got it:















now for the rust ive found :cry:










the engine im using is coming out of this golf:

heres a few pics:
tin top oil cooler:

pipe that loops round:

same area on the cabs:

both cars are gti's, the cabs is an A reg and the tin top is a Y reg,any help/advise would be great.
also managed to remove the exhaust from the tin top,think its the most rusty exhaust ive ever seen

the cabs is starting to turn into a bit of a temporary storage unit

cant get over the condition of the parcel shelf its mint and no holes too :mrgreen:
had a good poke around the boot and couldnt find any rot apart from the patch in the spare wheel well,its a bit rusty around the boot catch but not too bad,found a mint tarantula alloy with a new tyre in there too

you my good man are a legend,both came off easy with a little help from a 11/16 socket and a 17mm the other side and a metre long socket bar,top bloke,thanks 8)bouchay said
To get the lock nuts off, just hammer an old slightly smaller socket on to the bolt so it's on proper tight. Then use a braker bar to slacken it off. You should be able to then put the socket in a vice and then tap out the bolt using a a smaller bolt through end of the socket.

This should be a sticky! I had the exact same problem. Good Luck with the Project mate… will be looking forward to seeing it this year
