Chugga - Mk1 Caddy resto project

As promised in my intro thread, thought i'd knock together a bit of a thread on "chugga" my mk1 caddy

Started off the adventure by jumping on a train from Manchester to Reading after spotting the caddy for sale on a forum.

It was a 1.6D with a 5spd box, had a few months tax and test, and had been rattle canned in matt black. Axle flipped and coilovers up front and sat on some tatty sebring alloy wheels?he looked like this;

Failed an MOT on welding and a headlight, so it was off for some welding and meanwhile I bought a new set of headlamps, and spotted a chrome trim grille for sale on ebay too?slippy slope started!! In with the new lamps and new grille, and re-located the number plate. The smartened up front end looked like this;

Wheels were next on the agenda ? the tyres on the Sebrings were shot, and I wasn?t a fan of the look anyway. I had my heart set on some 13? ATS Classics and eventually managed to get hold of a set of 5 refurbed gloss black and polished ones. Then clad them in some Yoko rubber. Was looking much better then, tho I think it needs to be a little lower now;

A few months passed and it was decided that more power was needed, choice of the 1.9TD AAZ or the 1.6GTD, and it was more a case of whatever came along first. We picked up a cracking H-reg GTD from Newcastle ? almost too good to sacrifice?but it had to be done for the greater good!!

Work was carried out by a guy on the CaddyForum, and was a brilliant job?here are a few install pictures;

Only a few days after the GTD power was plumbed in ? it was a drive up north for the truck to be rested at the bodyshop that I know. Its been sat there for a while now, but its slowly getting there, prob be out around Christmas, New Year possibly.

So far he has had new front wings, new floor pans on both sides, new front panel, new rear arches have been fabricated from 4dr mk1 golf replacement panels. Doors have been repaired, as have the rear panels and tailgate has also been repaired and handle removed and smoothed. At the front the truck will have a N.O.S. chrome small bumper and the rear is bumper-less and smoothed off panel.
I?ll leave you with a few pics at various stages of the bodywork;

Comments more than welcome!
Thanks for looking

Wots Nike's marketing catchphrase?

Just do it…

If funds allow Paul I would.

alas they dont, unless someone with really nice caddy wants to swap for a mk3 estate (very very doubtful) then it wont happen for a while

JK so whats the plans for it???
Colours etc???

not too sure i've got too many more plans for it…

Colour is Audi Garnet Red - a darkish metallic red from the latest Audi TT, and a few other late Audis. The colour is similar to Indian Red, but wanted to be a tad different!

Cheers
