Nice work - axle mount looking good. Always feels reassuring when you start welding in new metal. Did you use a Hadrian repair panel in the end, did it come with the brake hose bracket?
Cheers

ahhh I remeber this, replaced both sides on mine, plus the rear sections. Not the nicest job in the world but satisfying when it was solid again. just finished painting the underside yesterday and it does look good now.
I used Hardian panels, good enough for the job trimed off what was not needed and they fitted a treat…

For anyone that has fitted new axle mounting points, when you came to fitting the rear brake flexi pipes to the brackets (the ones already on new axle mounting points) with the axle back in place did you find that they were out of position? Mine are quite far out but the mounting points are positioned correctly. They will have to be removed and repositioned thats how far out im talking!.

No chudd me dont weld for a livin! fix them funny french cars with a lion on the front! Used to have a VW restoration business back in 96-98 but give it up for an easier life, mostly aircooled v-dubs but i did a few golfs along the way.
Its a bit cramped in there i know espacially for a sixfoot two'er! Its no fun if its too easy.
Dani ill check location before i seal it up,it looked good lined up with the original though, maybe your bracket was on wrong from the makers.

As you will know if you have replaced them there is no way they could be positioned more than a few mm fore or aft due to them sitting over the axle mounting bolts so i dont know why the bracket is so far out. I will try and put some pictures up

just grappled the back axle into position to check the brake hose bracket location,i have the similar problem to daniboy. ive had to relocate the bracket 3cm forwards towards the front of the car as the flexhose was overbent when in position and would not have functioned correctly and would have soon split. take heed people this bracket could be welded on anywhere but the right place on your repair panel.

I did take some pictures but have yet to get them off mates camera onto my pc. How did you remove the bracket in the end?

The brackets welded on with three spot welds,i just drilled them out being careful not to drill right through the metal beneath them then used a bolster chisel to break it free.then re-positioned it using original flexhose and steel brakepipe to find the right position for it. weld it into place through the holes that you drilled through the spotwelds. job done! as if i didnt have enough to do already…
not took any pics yet but will do and get them up for you.

Ok cheers, i can just make out the three spots in one of your pictures. What have you coated the underside of your car with to replace all that vw sealer? I have been told that stone chip will do the job?.

I've been smearing the same area of my car with TEX Seam Selaer then spraying that with stone chip paint.

I use 3m seam sealer, stonechip and shultz (steer well clear of tetrosyl products there at the bottom end of car products ,cheap and nasty). granville stuf aint too bad and good vfm. i got some pics of flexhose mount and rear chassis its taking shape a bit now, well at this corner anyway.
Here's where i moved the flexhose bracket to, only its own length out.
will soon be sealing it up on this side first with stonechip in the wheelarch area followed by shultz underneath, sprayed on for that smooth finish, then ill paint it with 2k in the spring when ive finished the other side.(well hopefully in spring anyway)
Christos is here again and im demanded in other things for a while.so wont be back in the garage until next year, how shat is that? still you cant have it your own way all the time. Chuffin christos eigh!
