After debating whether it should go.........
here is my 1.1GL that has been sat on my drive for the year and a half looking very sorry for itself. I bought it off a friend for ?100 with the intentions of throwing money at it but as always……..NO.
Here what she looked like when my friend had it:

After being in a front end knock, my friend decided to change the car and leave it in her garage for a year before i had i took it off her. It was in a drivable state as you see:
[

I polished her up and:

After some inspiration from the forum and managing to borrow a mig-welder i have decided to do the car some justice:
1.30pm:

3.00pm:

finding the dreaded filler!!!

5.00pm:

Looks like someone else has been here before, time for replacements me thinks:

I sanded it down to bare metal as little pockets of rust where showing, looks ok, but not too sure if i used too much of a harsh sander??!!!

Anyone advise on the best way to cut the arches away? :dontknow:
Going to start on the passenger side tomorrow if its dry but seems to i need go and buy driver's sill, both arches, rear valance, fuel filler and possibly a front valence if i cant take one off a car i am breaking.
Dont know how to take the front valance off so some advice would be nice. Please???

Yeah, is used an angle grinder with a Piranha Sanding Head which does wonders but hope it'll be ok.

He did kindly but did not know how much effort there was to welding!! Thanks to Pete (Chris's dad) he did more than enough to get me started, even gave me a video on the basic mig welding.

So today after collecting my panels from Montmoss parts in Bolton and some bargain hunting on Ebay for some rear arches, i had a play about with the welder.
After 3 hours of practising and watching the video, i finaaly cracked it and i feel now is the time to get cracking. Wont start until tomorrow afternoon but looking forward to it.
Not too sure how to take the rear valance off but will be fun finding out.

last pic is of my practise work, doesnt look too special but sure proud of what i achieved.

The best way to do just the bottom part would be to cut your old panel where it sits behind the rear bumper, so that the weld and filler etc will be behind the bumper.
When cutting out the rear panel cut out the majority of the panel away from the rear chassis legs and where it joins the rear lower quarter panels. Then gring the metal back and remove it from the other panels and chassis legs. Hope that makes sense.
Also just tack a small weld then move to the other side and do the same, leave it to cool then do another small weld.
If you try to weld the lot in a oner you will warp the panels with the heat.
Clear as mud
