75' Golf S Automatic Restoration (Not 56k friendly)
She's been rebuilt to "gti look"

My plans are to restore her back to original.
Here she is:

The original color is probably this…
Sunflower yellow maybe ?
I'm not sure if I like the original color

There are some rust like expected on a car this old (running on salted roads)

I'm going to change the sills, front and rear arches, front and the rear panel.
I allso have to get it media blasted (strip the paint) to be sure that there are no hidden rust.
Started to remove some sound deadning inside the car.
Before:

After:

I removed the front fenders to see what was under there.

Looks like there been some rust repair there before.

I also sandblasted the tailgate emblems.
I'm going to paint the background and polish the letters…
just like the original

Before:

After:

That's it for now

I'll try to get it to look as original as I can.
I'm going to lower it and put on some 13" rims and some other oldschool stuff
jabbo: nah… it's not that bad, seen worse projects on vwvortex

Some of the previous owners have done some rust repair, looks like they did a pretty good job to me.

Started to grind on a "mysterious" spot, hmmmm what's this? :sly:

This is a very boring job.. especially in a small messy garage

As you can see there have been som rust repair on the usually spots there too.

As long as there is no weld line along the bottom of the car near the rear seats you'll be OK.

Like the around the fuel filler, sills, spare wheel well and probably some other places too, it will be easier to see if I get the paint removed.

Of course it didn't fit because of the brake caliper.
Is there any other types of calipers which doesn't stick out as much?
(well actually it's the caliper carrier that's the problem)
I also need flat head bolts for these rims.
I've heard that I can use some old air cooled vw studs/nuts.
Is that true and where can I get them?

I think they look even better in real life.
It's hard to take good pictures of polished surface.

Remember, VW made the last car in 1992. After that they started making vehicles.

Spacers are prob the simplest way to sort out the clearance for the moment. Not ideal obviously.

I'm getting calipers and carriers from the later mk1's.
They will work with a little bit of grinding (barly noticeable)
Just have to find some at the wrecker yard

Dont forget inside the A pillars as the early ones have that foam stuff in them at the bottom like beetles but rots from the inside out.
Had them both replaced on mine  but good job done luckily, think you can buy them still. :dontknow:

It's very easy to flip over, even in my little garage

Now it's easy to see the car have had some patch work done earlier. I guess I'll have to redo some of the crappy work.

Yes, it's made of 2x4" and plywood.
