1980 Cab GLi restoration project...and so it begins

there is a car under that dust

looking a bit sorry for itself on the trailer

work cut out here

would like to replace the dash as it has a couple of heat cracks on top

looks a bit rotten in there, i do like the wheels though

So that is this summers (and knowing me next summers!!!) project, thought I would post the current images before I get started (sorry about the dust and cobwebs!!!).   So I think this is what is needed; fix engine (I cooked this), I think the water pump or therm were the original cause, going to do a complete recon or source replacement 1.6i.  Remove excess wiring.  Replace inner wings, these have had some terrible welding jobs in the past and are getting a bit rotten.  Floor pan was getting a bit soft so will see what is required there.  New hood.  Replacement dash if I can source else see if I can get heat-cracks repaired.  Respray (classic 80's bronze as is!!).  Whatever else I uncover.  I will keep the GTi add-ons and wheels as I quite like these.  Time to start saving!!!

She is looking lovely allready!! My Mrs wants a cabby, a white one! I completley agree with you about the wheels. i'm currently refurbishing a set the same as those for my golf. They remind me a lot of the audi quattro rims. Once ive figured out the pic uploading thing ill post ya a pic of the one ive done. :D

Thanks mate, she'd still turn heads even at her age  :D .  Good luck with the wifes cabby hunt.  Those wheels in your picture look great.  Make sure you post a picture once they're on your golf!!!

Yeah not bad for a score! got them off a local scrappy, he brings wheels to us so we can strip the tyres and just give him the rims. When i saw those i just had to bite his hand off to get them. I love the grip and handling you get from 195/50r15's but i thought the 14's were more in keeping with the car. Plus they're genuine vw ones. Heres the next one waiting for anoyher coat of enamel bafore i chuck a tyre on it.
