ARC **Y Tin top A52 Bardills Garden centre

Saw this car going rather fast on A52 Sunday afternoon about 3:30, I was just wondering what engine was in it because it was quite nippy  :D

I was in a silver Peugeot 207 GTi. I guessed it was a 16v because the car in front of you couldn't pull away, you were on his bumper until I lost sight of you  :D I have a 5dr 1.3 cl, are you from around Derby and did you go to the AGM?

The car in front was my Audi S3, re-mapped to 260BHP :) My friend was driving it so he could give me a lift back.

In fairness, the MK1 is light, so great package with the 2litre 16v engine, and 1800cc 16v cams, 4 branch and custom 2.5" exhaust.

I don't use it that often to be honest, and didn't make the AGM.

Did you go. ?

I am from Nottingham, but car lives in else where.

Cheers.

Sounds like you have 2 nice motors  :D I wouldnt mind something a little faster than my 207 but the wife would kill herself  :D  I did go to the AGM but just for the day, I wanted to go on the drive out and 86 mk1's in a convoy was quite good. I think I'm sticking with the 1.3 engine when my mk1 gets restored as I dont want to start swapping engine mounts etc. There was a car you would have liked, at the AGM, if your a fan of power, a 20v Turbo Mk1, very nice car. Here is mine

Might see you at a show sometime. you going bug jam?

Nice, I have had quite a few MK1s, they are good fun.  Had MK1 Drivers, 1100cc, 1.6, 1.8 8v and 2litre 16v, and they were / are good fun.

I am out of the country for work effective Monday 16th - 10th August, so will not be able to make it.

I hear it is a good event though.

I do go to the Classic car meet at the Griffins Head, in Linby now and again. There are a few MK1s that go to that.

Yes, a 20vt would be nice.

Have a good one.

Cheers.

Hi is the golf lhasa green? I'm from Nottingham and there used to be a GTI lived on Trent Boulevard in Lady Bay when I first got my golf around 1994. Just wondering if it's the same car and if you know its history?

Morning,

Mine is a Black MK1 GTI.

There was a Lhasa Green MK1 Golf GTI - Number plate DRW117Y. That was a Nottingham car, VW Sport owned the car in circa 1997, and sold it to another Nottingham lad.  He lowered it with a Weitec suspension kit and fitted BBS RA wheels.

Does this sound like the car. ?

It was standard prior to 1997/8.

Cheers

No, I know that one…VW Sport put a G60 into it. Whatever happened to them? Think the guys name was Ant Gallagher..nice bunch of lads, I bought quite a bit of stuff for the golf from them.
It was just the reg from your golf was similar and you were from the area that made me ask. Was yours always black or could it have started off green?

No, that is a different one, and I found that car for them. That was a MK1 with the body rebuilt prior to purchase, finished in Pistaachio Green.

The number plate on that car started DFW***Y from memory.

My MK1, ARC**Y was down there for years, I actually went with Ant to collect that around 2000.  I got that car in 2003 as a rolling shell, after writing off my other MK1 GTI which was A119FRB, finished in White.

ARC is a Nottingham car from new, and three previous owners. It has a good shell.

What car did you have at the time.

I was always down VW Sport.

The land where VW Sport was situated was / is being developed on, so all units down there had to be evacuated.

Ah yes that explains the G60. I had and still have the campaign (pretty much standard with a couple of minor mods), but also had my Mk2 valver at the time so kept them quite busy with bits for both. I seem to remember their yard was a bit of an aladdin's cave with all sorts down their including a couple of old 50's buses! Shame they've gone

Nice.  Do you still use the MK1. ?

Yes, the buses belonged to a guy called Gary, we used to call him Bus Man ! lol.

There were many other cars down there too, happy memories. !

There was also another rollingLhasa Green car down there too, no glass etc.  That shell came with the Pistachio one, part of the deal.

DRW117Y was from Ant's previous unit in Basford, and that car has since died.

Yep, still use the mark1 normally once a week between Nottingham and Derby where I work. All the rush hour people know my car mainly because one morning in a slow moving traffic jam my horn started blaring and wouldn't go off. Couldn't stop it until ten minutes later when I could pull over and pull out the relay. They all thought I was a maniac nutcase trying to shift people out of the way. Thing is people remember a mk1 golf so now they must always think there's that nutter whenever they see it! Ah such fun times driving a golf…….
