I have an oil leak on my GTI near the gearbox and would like to identify the source. It is not coming from above.

Is this likely to be the driveshaft flange seal ?
Thanks for your help !

When ordering , do no forget the green part , and be careful to choose the correct flange seal .

Drain the gearbox ,
Just remove the alen bolts , and you'll be able to change the flange seal ,
There is a clips a bit boring to remove/install
But doable .

Guide here to changing the flange seal, it can be done on the car but access is a little tight.
020 Flange
You will need to drain the gearbox oil so a good time to upgrade the oil to fully synthetic.

The 2 or 3 I have done have a F-off big spring behind them that sends the cup whizzing past your head… the PITA is getting them back on which needs some sort of threaded bar contraption

Does anybody know the correct part number for the seal ? There seem to be a few options. I will change the gearbox oil but should anything else be done at the same time?
My car is a standard 1983 1.8 GTI
Many Thanks !
