I'm just about to break my Lupo GTI for parts but before i strip it i was wondering if anyone has used or whether it's possible to use any of braking system for my mk1?
The first question was regarding the rear discs. Would it be possible to use all the stuff from the lupo, stub axles, calipers and everything straight onto the mk1 beam and just use some scirocco 16v handbrake cables?
The second question was about the front brake setup. On the Lupo I've currently got a 280mm setup using G60 carriers and standard Lupo/Polo GTI calipers (Lucas ones iirc) My question is do i need to use the G60 calipers or will these go onto the mk1 with a bracket?
Finally, would i need to upgrade the servo or would the standard one be up to the job?
The car is an '88 clipper cab converted to a KR 16v if that helps. I did do a search but couldn't see anything relating to Lupo GTI bits being used.

the rears are like polo/ibiza setup with separate stub axle bearing assemblies, they should all bolt up fine but you'll need to strip everything off the donor and get caliper conversion flexi hoses as per mk4 caliper conversion.
for the fronts you'll need 280mm conversion brackets from ebay or the caddy forum, again with conversion hoses if you have std calipers since they're using banjo hoses not straight thread as per mk1.
servo and mc use mk2 golf 1.8 9" servo and 16v 22mm master cylinder. your lupo may have the 22mm master cylinder on it, not 100%. some polos of same era do put it that way

Thanks very much rubjonny! I thought i'd have to use the conversion flexi hoses but as long as it all bolts up then that's not a problem.
I'm pretty sure i've got a 16v servo and master cylinder in the garage somewhere that i never fitted so might as well get that on but i'll check the lupo one out first as i'm sure it'll be in much better condition if it's the correct one.
Cheers!

only thing im not sure on is the rears as lupo is slightly different to polo and seat, but the bolt pattern is the same so it shoudl go.
what it is iirc the caliper carriers are on a separate plate under the stub axle on a lupo, if so then that means the rears will be spaced out a bit over the polo/seat setup as the carriers on those are part of the stub axles.
depending on your wheel offset this may be a problem! worst case the calipers will bolt up to mk2/3 type caliper carriers

Now you mention it i remember seeing something about using the Lupo caliper carriers as a stub axle spacer which is another thing i was planning to do so hopefully it will kill two birds with one stone.
I'm running an 8" ET25 rear at the moment with a 20mm spacer so i've got a bit of room to play with.
I've got the rear beam off at the moment to change the tank and redo the fuel lines so i might as well take a look at while it's in bits. I'll reprt back with my findings!

yeah thats the one, only thing I'm not sure of is if that spacer was a 3l lupo only part? but if it does have then sounds like you should be able to do away with the spacers
