Hi all,
I discovered today that the clutch release shaft seal has started to leak. It must be something very recent.
It's not big, just a few drops of oil where there
Problem is that I'm leaving for a roadtrip (to the uk 😉) next Monday and I'll never be able to order the parts and repair the car before we leave…
So i did something very quick and hopefully not dirty…
I wrapped a piece of cloth around the shaft and secured it with a tiewrap.
Does anybody know is there a lot of oil pressure? Will it start leaking quickly more?
I guess/hope not, i hope it will continue to leak just in very small quantities.
The trip will be around 1.000 miles.
Thanks for your advice!

Second question has anybody changed this seal before? Can't really find a topic about it.
I want to know what parts to order. If I understood well I need to destroy the green cap for removal of the gearbox head.
So I already need:
Any thoughts are always welcome!

- The shaft seal
- Gasket for the gearbox head
- Green cap.

If you are talking about this seal:
part 23:
It isn't that hard to replace. Can't find it on Brokes page.
TO Bearing
Never had one leak from there, but the warnign is that 5th gear is a splash oiled gear. If your Transmission oil drop below a point then you can burn out 5th gear.
The seals aren't that expensive.

They all start with GOOD Grounds.

If it is the seal that
Briano1234
referenced, I have changed that one.
Remove green cap, remove the two 'C-clips' (21) on the shaft, then you can lever the release finger 20 off the shaft. It is quite a tight fit (well mine was) so won't just slide off. Once the shaft is out you can prise the old seal out. Took me a while to get hold of one in the uk, nearly always out of stock. If you search for the part no 020 141 733 you'll get a load of results. Might be best going on Autodoc and getting some of the manufacturers part numbers to see if you can find uk stock.

Oh great news guys, it is actually partno 020 141 733 !
Good to hear that it is a relative simple job. Thought I had to take of the complete head of the gearbox.
If I'm correct I do not need to drain the gearbox oil in that case?
Let the search for 020 141 733 begin ;-)

If you are in the UK they may not ship to you unless you spend more than £100…..
If you are jacking the car up on the gearbox side you probably won't have to drain the box, but I'd put a clean tray under just in case. You'll have to drop the gearbox slightly in order to fit the new green cap. That will mean the gearbox and rear engine mounts, put a jack under the box to lower it down an put it back up again…

Great, thanks for the advice
Briano1234
and

!
I checked my local store also, they could not order it, just like you said.
But I've ordered the parts in the meantime at Werk34. I live in Belgium and I'm a regular customer there, only 12 euro shipping cost.
Hopefully delivered before we leave for our UK roadtrip 🤞

Get some more gearbox oil to add needed.
It's a good idea to replace the gearbox oil every 4 years.

Hi all,
Wanted to let you know that I changed the sealing last week, all went well thanks to your instructions👌!
Just want to add one thing… When removing both clips be sure not too push them to the back of the gearbox before adding a little piece of cloth behind it!
I got a bit stressed as one of them flew away, into the gearbox 😳.
Luckily I was able to retrieve it with a strong magnet, otherwise I might have to open up the complete gearbox… 🫣
