Identifying the correct brake parts

Post

Hi there,

Some of you may have already seen me trying to get my MK1 Scirocco 1978 back up and running

I'm struggling to find a suitable replacement brake servo, the original part is labelled:

ATE 03.6132-5701.4

An american guy on Facebook, told me that this part is available in most car parts shops, but when I asked more about it, he suddenly went quiet, oh how I love social media !! :)

I can't find an identical one on sale anywhere so I went digging around to see if I could find an alternative part number or any details.

I found a big pdf document called ATE_classic and in there it states that it is a T51 type 7" servo.

When I googled images of a T51 type 7" brake servos, there were lots of pictures of what look like very similar items.

From the images it's hard to see if the fixtures are compatible, etc.

Any tips? I've looked also at the upgrade thread for a mk2 16v booster and I wouldn't mind trying that but most important to me is to find all the compatible part numbers for a solution that will allow my car to have enough brake power to get through a technical inspection.

Thanks for any help

I am going to make an assumption as nomenclature varies on which side of the pond you are on.

The Brake Vacuum Booster as we call them over here on this side of the pond is also hard to come by.  Over here we have companies that will rebuild them, takes 3-4 weeks and you have to ship the old ones to them to have them repaired.

The other caveat is that you need to read the reviews and email them to verify that they can do yours.  Years back they were doing a swap with a hefty core charge.

If you find one in the States that says (heck any rebuilt over here) done by CarDone that is indicative to the use of the part and their terrible reputation.  I personally got 2 bad rebuilt MC's for a Chrysler and 2 bad CV's for my Cabriolet.  I once got 3 bad Alternators from one vendor, but they declined to say who rebuilt them.

What do Divorces, Great Coffee, and Car Electrics all have in common?

They all start with GOOD Grounds.

Where are my DIY Links?

Can you double check 03.6132-5701.4 is correct, particularly the digits I've high-lighted?

'3', as you say denotes a 7" servo, but I can find no reference to what the number '2' signifies (there is however a reference to 'Z', have you mis-read it perhaps?).

This is a cut'n'paste from a BMW 2002 forum - explains what a T51 servo is -

'The ATE T51 Brake Booster is a dual diaphragm, narrow diameter, vacuum assist booster
found on several vintage European marques. It was used in applications where space
considerations required a smaller diameter booster. Due to its two diaphragms, it also
provides more vacuum assisted brake boost than most single diaphragm boosters.'

I can find no mention (yet) of a servo listed for a '78 Scirocco with the 1.5 JB engine, did it originally come with one… might be a later addition from something else?

Hi again.

Apologies for the late reply. I made this post originally about 4 years ago when I was looking for replacement part.

About 6 months later I found a guy selling new 'old' stock in the US, he had a few items.

The servo he sent me (which I can confirm is the correct one for my 78 Scirocco 1 GT with JB engine) has these part numbers:

171-612-107H (ATE 6130-6500)

I hope this is useful

David

Not sure how that old of a post got included in my recently added filter… anyhow, good that you got sorted and those numbers'll potentially be useful to someone else, cheers!
