Brake light switches, where is mine???

Post

Before I ask this I do need to point out I dont actually have access to the car at the moment so cant check for myself

I've just fitted my 16v servo and mc and was planning my brake line plans when it occured to me I dont have any brake light switches on my old servo

Its a 1985 GTI cab, is there a chance it could already have a brake pedal switch instead? I thought it was only the Rocco and some of the American models that had them from the factory and mine appeared to be completely original

I've included a couple of snaps of the old mc below. I should probably point out that when fitting the new stuff I saw an electrical plug of some sort kicking about near the servo which I didn't remember disconnecting when I took the old one out

And here is the new stuff nicely snugged in waiting for some shiny new copper to be plugged in

You have the brake switch on the pedal as there is only 4 outputs on your old master cylinder, you would have 6 outputs if you had the brake light switch on the master cyinder as there is 2 sensors fitted.

The 2 big valves on the bottom of your old master cylinder are proportioning valves, they reduce the amount of braking force to the rear brakes to stop the rear wheels locking up and sending you into a spin and crashing the car….
You will need these or fit a different system which works on the rear beam, early cars or Mk2 golfs used a valve fitted to the rear beam.

Cheers for that mark1gls I'll whip them off and stick them on the mc then.

Should also be one less issue to deal with when making up the new copper brake lines, no valves or brake light switches
