what am i looking for?
so I need spacers for the rear, only 5-10mm for my 87' cab issue is i bought shim style ones and soon realised they were a pain in the ar$e as you cant centre them very easily when removing / fitting the wheel. so obviously im now looking at hub centric ones but its a mine field and I dont want to buy wrong again….. any pointers guys? cheers nath

I'm pretty sure that all spacers under 10mm are not hub centric normally.
I could be wrong of course!
What i found helps is the use of some grease on the back of the spacer as this holds it in place whilst the wheel is put on.
One of these also helps

You put it in and it helps hold the spacer and aids in putting the wheel on.
What soecs wheels are you running? I tend to find a 15 or 20mm spacer works best for the back

explains why im struggling!
I couldnt tell you exact spec wheel off top of my head but its been bit of a nightmare, the guy I bought the car off bought the incorrect alloys and it was cheaper to have arch work done than replace them (my mates a bodyshop guru)
all 4 wheels caught but I liked the stance hence making the decision i did as one rear arch needed work anyways.
just dont wanna buy 15mm and then have the same problem again, however im pretty sure ill get away with 15mm easy

I took a wheel stud down to my bolt supplier and for less than a quid walked out with 2 long bolts of the same thread, zip the top off and then cut a slot in the unthreaded section. Hey Presto, two wheel alignment studs.

had a thought after borednow added that link for the wheel alignment tool….
spoke to the Mrs who is an M&E engineer and she has just had some M12 all thread cut down to 150mm lengths and added a slot in the end
fingers crossed this will allow me to easily use the 5mm spacers i have already!
cheers boys

5mm - 10mm hub centric spacers
I think the Eibach ones are hubcentric aren’t they? Have some 3mm ones at home. They’re not cheap though!

I have American Racing Alloys on one of my Cabbies, and they were a pain to fit. After getting them on the car drove down the road with a weird vibration…. As they were never really centered to the hub. I went to a local Wheel store and he looked up the rim and the Centric Spacer that was supposed to be there.. Once I got the spacers, I siliconed glued them to the wheel.
Made it easier to fit, and the vibration was gone. You might try running to a AfterMarket wheel seller and see if they can get the correct ones for your rims, to make it easier to center.
Oh, my AR alloy's had about 3 different iterations of bolt holes, so they were made to fit a bazillion different rides…(not VW specific.) . The centering rings were about 2 USD each, but made a world of difference.

What do Divorces, Great Coffee, and Car Electrics all have in common?
They all start with GOOD Grounds.
Where are my DIY Links?

You are using longer wheel bolts than standard when fitting spacers?
Don't go to long or they will hit the brake shoes in the rear drums….

I have these 5mm ones, not sure if 10mm spacers will work on rear as center spigot is deeper than 10mm.
