1.1 5 Speed

Hi,

Does anyone know if a gearbox from a 1.5 JB engine will fit a 1.1 GG engine? If not does anyone know which 5 speed box would be best to use with a 1.1 engine

1.5 is likely an 020 gear box, so no it won't fit. You need 085 series gearboxes. I'd recommend an AYZ code. They came on 1 liter Polos. It has a 4.27 final and decent gearset. it will turn about 900 rpm less at 60mph/100kmh in your setup.

You'll also need a mount fabricated, there's no OEM mount to fit an 085 box in a mk1 Golf. Google is your friend, there's a couple Dutchmen that fab them for good prices. However, if your handy, they're straigforward to make.

Thanks but the link isnt opening for some reason. Do you know if I can use my 1.1 driveshaft and hubs or will I need them from the Polo aswel?

Your current driveshafts will bolt on the 085 no problem.  I've run my original 1.1 driveshafts with a 140+bhp AFH without issues. They only just got replaced last year with a fresh set.
