WUR replacement/ upgrade.

Post

Currently having the engine finished off and spoken to the garage he suggesting modernising the WUR. After some googling and searching I'm not finding much joy. I don't see many advantages of just replacing the WUR with a more modern box unless someone can enlighten me? In my mind to full advantage Id need a stand alone Ecu and lots of parts replaced. Which I don't really plan to do.

engine specs to help are

2.0 tall block
bvh, gs2 cam
audi thottle body with matched inlet
tubular exhast mani + opm stainless system.

wur is currently modded as well

I don't know a lot about moding engines but why did he suggest modernising the WUR if the one fitted is already is upgraded to match the larger throttle body?
I can't see any advantage in doing it unless the one fitted is not up to the job.

a modded WUR is just opened up to let more fuel through, I think what hes talking about has more fine tuning.
I don't know how many settings the WUR's have is it just a certain temp when cold it richens the mixture then when warms up leans off. put ur foot down dumps some fuel. or is there several temperatures and throttle positions it can vary.

id guess if its just a single temp and throttle position, a more modern system would allow for more fine tuning at different temps loads and throttle positions.

anyone know of one or used one?

a mk2 16v and certain audi unit is better for tuning as you drill a hole in the back and have a grub screw for fine tuning. the 8v ones are a pain as it involves tappign a bit on the back in, or strippign it down to tap back out!

also the 16v/audi unit has an extra vacuum connection on the side which will add more fuel on hard throttle :)

can always count on the information from rubjonny, thanks again for the help. could you tell me the part numbers for both so I can find which one I have?

do you know of any non VAG alternatives as I think this is the road he was looking down.

im not after squeezing every last inch of power from the engine. put it 2.0 for extra torque and the other bits were there when I bought it. he saying be able to get it to run smoother lower down.

035133403G for the 16v, not 100% on the audi? if its got some numbers let me know and i'll see if i can find :)

see if you can find a kstar+fuel setup, fully mappable ignition and fuel for old skool kjet ;) but might want to ask your tuner if he knows anything about them first
